Case study: An easy way to get extra profit Sweepstakes + Push Traffic. .

Similar to all others, the push format has been “buried” more than once, although the traffic volume and CPC don’t drop, competition is still high, and new push nets appear regularly. I’ve decided to test one of these relatively new nets from scratch since I haven't worked with pushes for a long time and at that time there were no functioning sets. The last time I worked with push nets was 2-3 years ago and at that time they converted almost everything. Now, judging by the cases, among the top verticals there are dating, sweeps, gambling, and crypto, so we’ll choose from this list. The idea was to run traffic from an unknown source for $300 and understand how this format works now.
At the start, I chose 3 push nets and created accounts but from the first two there was no prompt reply while in Rollerads a Russian-speaking manager contacted me at once. I looked at their traffic volumes and average CPCs by country (https://rollerads.com/rates.html) and decided not to waste time and effort on several sources. I immediately asked the manager which verticals were the most efficient on their platform, because in each net publishers and rules are different, for example, the emphasis may be made on gray niches and adult. The newness of the database can also influence the conversion in different verticals, so it’s better always to keep in touch with the managers as only they have the latest data on current trends. I was told that now crypt, sweeps, software, and dating (a little bit) are the top directions. There is no point in testing the crypt for $300, therefore I chose sweeps because on FB I work with a partner program with sweep Smartlinks and they have offers on tier-3. This will let me buy more traffic with my modest budget, test several offers and locations, and get more data. I chose several tier-3 countries in Asia where there were lots of cheap traffic – those countries were Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia – then opened the spy service to see relevant approaches and search for texts in the languages I needed. I didn’t want to pay for the subscription, so I found a free spy service for pushes – https://spy.house/. It was great indeed, and the list of nets contained RollerAds from where I was going to run traffic.

Here you can see the standard creatives for sweepstakes, the latest models of iPhone, Samsung, PlayStation, and coupons from local supermarkets that are in the top. Since I wasn’t going to stick to the limits and wanted to use a Smartlink with many rotation offers, at the start, I made creatives with the general wording such as “You won!”, “Get your prize!”, etc., which would be suitable for most sweepstake offers. I chose texts according to each location and used them to create texts for my pushes:

After that, I generated a Smartlink for CPL sweeps on the TraffCore partner platform. I've been working with them in the field of FB dating for more than a month. Their shtick is daily payments without a minimum, or rather the minimum of $1. It’s quite handy if the budget is tight and people like the set, so you can quickly scale it. Here it’s possible to configure Smartlinks according to different types of traffic. Moreover, you can ask the manager to specify the list of current rotating offers. All these reduce the cost of tests. Smartlinks are created in two clicks similar to the streams on a standard partnerplatform:

When texts, pictures, and the Smartlink were ready, it was time to create campaigns. In the settings of the Rollerads campaign, I could choose the traffic type – standard or premium. I decided to start with the premium one and test the standard option later. Then everything was quite typical: selecting location, rate, limits, and subscription duration. Here is what I chose: fresh 1-3 and 4-7, devices – only mobile devices, OS – only Android, all versions. At that stage, I omitted browsers, operators, feeds, and CPA optimization. Using these settings, I created 4 campaigns for each location with 8 creatives in eachat the recommended rates. Examples of pushes:

Approve took up to 30 minutes and the campaigns were launched. I checked all the links once again, and the traffic flowed everywhere. There was no point in doing any optimization with the first clicks, so I waited for the data to accumulate. When there were the first conversions, it was a sign that everything was fine. For the test, I set campaign limits of $20 everywhere. The next day, when all the pushes reached their targets, I ran traffic for $102 and some optimization options became possible. Then I added several platforms and feeds to the black list and singled out the most successful pushes – the combinations of pictures and trigger phrases – but the most significant results in terms of the conversion were chosen by the method of connection and by country:

It immediately became obvious that the mobile traffic conversion was almost two times higher. For the push traffic, it happens quite often. At that time, there were clearly distinguished 2 leading countries with negative ROI of -17% and -19%. Those were Indonesia and Thailand. So the main points of optimization are the following:- disabling the traffic with a stationary method of connection;- disconnecting Vietnam and Malaysia;- disabling unsuccessful ads and replicating the successful ones.

Also, I wanted to look inside the Smartlink and understand which offers in Indonesia and Thailand showed the best results for my traffic. It could lead to some ideas, for example, on how to improve creatives. Not all partner platforms provide this information. I don’t know why it is so but it looks as if they don’t know what offers they have. But the manager gave me the current list, and it turned out to be a gift card to a local supermarket in Indonesia, and a standard sweepstake of the newest iPhone in Thailand. Now, knowing it all, I've added to my previous successful creatives more relevant ones with logos and brand names that must increase the conversion rate.

With the new settings, the campaigns immediately gained profit. I didn’t raise the stakes on purpose so that the campaign duration would allow me to check the black list in time and control the process. Traffic considerably decreased since I disabled Wi-Fi connections in campaigns, but CR increased by almost 2 times, and ROI for 3 days with the new settings were 50% what was quite fine for pushes:

The overall ROI of the campaign, taking into account the first launch, of course, turned out to be lower and had 22%:

But then there was a functioning set that would make a profit and take little time. Since there was no hold in this partner program, I immediately withdrew what had been gained and replenished the source. After that, the only thing I had to do was to monitor the traffic, add platforms to the black list, and from time to time update the creatives.
