How to warm up a cold email list
Hey everyone,
I have an email list of around 20k customers from a niched down ecom store I had a little while ago. I want to use this email list to start promoting offers in that niche.
If I gave you this email list, what would be the main things that needed to be done to get these people warmed up and ready to spend?

HI!
well first, those aren't your customers anymore since it was from a while ago...
I'd recommend that you don't spam those people with offers in the niche but provide some value tips etc, make some blog around that niche maybe

Never really warmed up any list. Just blast it with a proper client (getresponse, klaviyo)

Copywriter here. Here’s what I do when I’m managing a new list:
First, not sure how old this email list is but you’ll want to create a segment of warmer contacts first.
The rule of thumb is usually anyone who’s engaged (opened, clicked) in the last 90 days but depending on your list you can stretch it.
Start emailing this segment first so you don’t raise spam triggers.
Once that’s done, here’s what I usually do for the first email
Subject: Remember me?
Body:
Hey NAME,
Not sure if you remember us, but [one line intro].
I wanted to apologise for being silent for a while, but it’s been crazy busy for us because we’ve been working hard to bring the best products for you!
And we’re sure you’re going to love what’s coming - so keep an eye out on your inbox for that.
In the meantime, here’s a quick sneak peak of what we’ve got coming:
[send a free report/some value etc]
[sign off]
Email 2
Subject: Quick question...
Hey NAME,
What’s your #1 question about/problem with ____?
Hit reply and let me know.

Email 3-7
Dive into your story, your brand, offer value/free tips etc. Really try to build a relationship with your readers.
Email 8 onwards - pitch in every single email.

Some great advice right there @projectzero thanks for posting that!
I just wanted to suggest some kind of "reminder email" myself too, but it would be great to get more info from you @bogdankosilovstm.
For example, what are you planning to do with the list? promoting something totally unrelated to the old ecom store or are you about to bring that one back to life?
Blasting an old list with offers just out of the blue will result in very poor results most for sure, I wouldn't even try that. You definitely need to bring it back to life, maybe by using what projectzero suggested above.
On top of that, there might be legal limitations, especially related to GDPR and similar regulations, you should keep this in mind.
Care to share what the niche was? Maybe we could provide better advice that way or even some ideas on subject lines etc...

This is GOLD!
Basically try to provide massive value to your list, to train them to open future emails from you (when you're ready to monetize them again).
And asking people for feedback on what problems they're experiencing will tell you what content to write - an excellent idea.
Some guidelines on email content:
1)Make sure the topic is of interest to a large percentage of your list (i.e. nothing too niche - unless you're wanting to identify a subset of your list to then sell a niche product to)
2)Give actionable advice - something people can implement quickly and easily to solve their issues.
3)Give relevant advice - something that is relevant to the times we're in.
4)Inject emotion into the content - trigger / appeal to your readers' emotions. Give people what they want and not necessarily what they need. Way easier to get people to take action by invoking emotions vs. appealing to logic (in most cases).
Have fun!

I love this! Unfortunately I don't have any relationship with the people on this list since I haven't contacted them in a while. Its a list from my old Shopify store but its very niched down so my plan was to warm them up then push offers and value in that niche! Thanks for your help!

Hey!
Nope, I want to promote things in the same exact niche that the store was!
The niche is spirituality/self-help

Thank you!
That niche is right up my alley!
If you'd post a url to the store, or even just list some of the products that sold the most, I should be able to give you some tips on how to monetize the list.
