VIDEO: How To Utilize 8 Income Streams As Content Creator (Dear Alyne)

NOTE: This presentation was recorded along with the introduction and closing sequence. The actual speech starts at around 2:10 and it ends at 32:40.

How I Built 8 Streams of Income as a Creator and How You Can Too!

Let’s go on with another speech summary.

This one is from the CreatorConf that was held at the end of 2021.

I chose this one because it nicely sums up the main income streams of a content creator and how to utilize them.

The speaker is Alyne Tamir, going online by her “Dear Alyne” handle.

She has an interesting background, to say the least.

Alyne is an ex-mormon community member, who decided to break out of the bubble and pursue her own dreams.

I mean, if an ex-mormom can crush it in the world of online content creators, anyone can, right?

By now, Alyne has more than 3 million followers spread over Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and Tiktok and her videos crossed 300 million views.

Here are Alyne’s main channels, should you want to check them out:

FB (3 mil followers): https://www.facebook.com/dearalyne/
Instagram (326k followers): https://www.instagram.com/dearalyne/
Youtube (132k subs): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG5...TKfFy6dASw9WpA
TikTok (57k followers): https://www.tiktok.com/@dearalyne

And now to the actual presentation!

Alyne starts by showing a slide with her 8 income streams, including a breakdown of how much $$$ she actually made from each of them.

Alyne said these were from the past year, so 2020 I assume, which means her current revenue should be significantly higher as her followers have grown nicely as well since this presentation.

6 Of the streams are directly related to the online world, the last 2 are traditional investment related “backup” streams.

So let’s focus on the 6 that actually directly relate to the creator business.

1. Social Media Ad Revenue

Alyne shared her income from Youtube, which really surprised me.

From 300k views, she made just about $200… I was expecting much more.

Important takeaway here that Alyne emphasized: The YOUTUBE ad revenue depends heavily on the topic of the video and the audience watching it.

Alyne happens to be in the travel niche, which is one of the lower paying ones.

What about FB, can you even monetize your content there?

Yes you can and this is something many people don’t even know about.

Facebook looked much better, $36k in her first monetized year!

Then $80k+ in her second one and then, surprise surprise, just $15k in 2021 (it was not the whole year).

What does this mean? Alyne emphasizes that the revenue per year from social media can go up and down a lot.

If you want to keep up the ad revenue, you need to stay consistent with the updates which she admits to not being her case.

Less content posted means lower engagement and that had a negative impact on her ad revenue.

This whole presentation was so honest, Alyne didn’t try to hide anything or fool the viewers, I loved it!

2. Sponsors and Brand Deals

Alyne uses two different approaches when working with brands. She calls it “Integrations” and “External Content”.

Integrations are basically sponsored entries in her own videos, where she talks about a product or service.

External content means videos that she has made for the brands she worked with, that they used to post on their own channels.

Alyne shared some tips on how to work with the brands and how to get them interested in what you offer.

The one I liked the most was the “Hamburger Method”

What it means is basically offering multiple things in a single proposal, just like a hamburger had several layers of ingredients.

Don’t offer just an Instagram reel.

Add a featured story, repost on FB page, FB story, a product tag… it’s all low effort on your side, but adds a lot of value for the potential brand partner.

Other things that might come in handy: media kit, screens of past collabs, links to already made videos, testimonials… make it easy for the brand to say yes.

Important takeaway: Don’t worry if your following isn’t huge yet!

Brands care more about the relevance of your audience than the actual numbers.

There is a market even for small content creators.

3. Speaking Engagements

This comes naturally once you become an authority on some topics.

Find out what you are good at and focus on that.

Sooner or later, you will be contacted by someone who offers you the opportunity to speak at some event.

How much does it pay?

Alyne mentioned that this can vary MASSIVELY, she was paid as low as $500 for an hour of speaking but also as much as $10.000 for the same amount of time.

Even in case of online events! This can be really a solid money maker once you establish yourself.

4. Consultations

Alyne consults for a bunch of companies, focusing on content creation.

Networking is great to land consulting deals.

How much does it pay? It can be a certain % of the income, it can be a monthly or yearly fee.

Set your rates based on how much you value your time! Not everyone will agree to this, but you gotta value your time.

5. Dear Alyne Retreats

This is a more unique approach and not utilized too much and Alyne emphasizes it’s not for everyone, you need to enjoy doing this.

Alyne did in-person as well as online retreats.

These retreats are great for finding friends and possible business partners.

These can be very lucrative, especially the online ones, since there are not many expenses assigned to these.

How to sell a retreat?

Stories and posts work the best.

Alyne emphasizes the importance of building mail lists!

These can be very effective in selling these retreats.

A sample email is in the slide above. (download the slides if it's not readable)

Based on Alyne’s experience, even though her email list is the smallest following she has, it converts the best.

The one she has is 14k subs and she sells 90% of the retreats through it.

Wondering what subject lines to use for maximum performance?

Check the slide below:

And a final tip on email from Alyne: Don’t just send one email, create an email sequence.

Each of the emails need to contain a new value proposition, do not repeat the same ones.

6. Courses

This is the last “online” income stream that Alyne utilizes.

There are several formats you can use and one of them clearly wins.

Check the slide below:

Yes, pre-recorder does the best.

The reason is simple: People can take it anytime they want.

How to build a course? Alyne uses NasAcadamy and Teachable.

Advice: Talk about things that are not available on Youtube and other free platforms already.

Add you own touch, your experience, your own work… screens, case studies… think about how to add value.

Alyne ends her presentation with the following slide:

So just like in the world of affiliate marketing, it’s all about taking action. Don’t wait for the opportunities to hit you in the face, create them, be proactive, take action.

The presentation ends here.
