Can only speak for sweeps.
Propeller is good starting point. Moderation is speedy, they have massive traffic for most geos and quality is usually good to excellent.
Competition can be quite fierce as you can see in the traffic prices. In the end you get what you pay for (in most cases).
My 2nd recommendation is Clickadu. Moderation speed is ok (usually less than 2 hours). Volumes are more than sufficient but usually below Propeller.
Both sources have easy to use interfaces and are supported by the well known trackers (setup is easy).
Once you have found a good offer it makes sense to try it on other established pop sources as well. In the end there is not so much magic in pop traffic. Of course perfomance can be different as each source has their pros and cons. In this regard propeller and clickadu are quite good broadliners that can work really good for testing and initial scaling.

Beginner pops? Sweeps? Zeropark! UNGAds! Evadav!
Just kidding. Don't even try. You will get destroyed.
Pops on sweeps, Propeller is the go to for a reason. Agree with larsometer.
Dating doesn't work well on pops unless you really know what you're doing and are scaling.
For dating, I would do push as it's easier, for that I would recommend propeller (good volume, but quality of leads won't be great) or clickstar (lower volume, but higher quality).

If you see good results in the mentioned verticals, then stick to those, there is no point in leaving something that works for you.
As a general rule, to address your original questions, all the sources have both good and bad traffic. In reality, it's quite common to find traffic from the same publishers on multiple traffic networks too. There are some large traffic feeds that simply sell the visit to the largest bidder on a market place, it's the way this business works

Thats why its important to test on a large scale and constantly block the placements/sources that are not working for you.

I don't carry the same street cred as this bunch of wonderful yahoos, but I can offer this... +1 Propeller is pretty much a go to for beginner. SUPER fast approval, and easy to work with them if something gets disapproved. Easy to use interface and like @
larsometer said easy to integrate into trackers etc. Quality is pretty much good to go there as well (no complaints yet myself on anything but my wins are very small compared to those heavy hitters).
My advice for sweeps, keep everything really simple. Don't overdue or overthink what you make. Pops and push traffic is an interesting beast that prefers simplicity over all. I used to play this game called Runescape, and in it there is this weapon that is basically a giant stick attached to a rock (granite maul, when there are way more complex advanced weapons in the game). It's description is, "Simplicity is the best weapon."
I try to keep that in mind with pops and push. Hope that helps you too. Whenever you feel like you wanna overdue it just remember that granite maul and you will be fine lol.

Hi!
I’d recommend you to pay attention to pop-under ads, unlike pop-up ads, they’re shown behind the user’s currently open window, are less intrusive, the user is not interrupted and isn’t getting annoyed.
Also, I’d mention, that it’s better to be careful with pops for dating. I used to work with pop traffic for dating some time ago. But the landing page should be soоо attractive not to annoy the user with a catching call2action. And not all advertisers allow pop traffic right now.
If we’re talking about pop traffic, I’d recommend this ad networks: Traffichunt, RichAds, Clickadilla, Exoclick, Hilltopads, Propellers
By the way, probably this guide might be helpful for you
a)Setting Up a Campaign on PropellerAds - ACTION

For dating on pop traffic I would look for member area traffic.
Can result in high CPM but it´s probably some of the best quality pop traffic for dating.
