VIDEO: Meet The Snapchat Generation (Gregorie Gimaret)

Meet the Snapchat Generation and the Ecommerce Solutions Capturing Their Attention.

The next speech I have selected to watch and write a summary for, was presented by Grégoire Gimaret, who is the Product Marketing Lead for Snapchat France & Emerging markets.

As always, I will use some of the slides in this summary, but you can download the full set in high resolution by clicking the link below.

Snapchat is one of those platforms that are often overlooked by affiliate marketers and ecommerce people, but that’s apparently a mistake we are all making.

I have to admit, I’m not even using the snapchat app myself so some parts of the presentation were hard for me to digest.

BUT, looks like they are really doing GREAT things in the Augmented Reality field and turning the app into a shopping platform with MASSIVE opportunities.

This being said, if you haven’t explored this channel yet and you have some solid product to sell… you should definitely give Snapchat a try.

Ok, so what was in the presentation?

Gregorie starts by sharing some interesting growth charts … ecom has grown more in 2020 than in the previous 9 years, 44% year to year in the USA, which is massive… and the same pattern is visible everywhere, not just US. And based on the relevant projections, this growth should continue for the next few years.

When talking about Snap in particular, it’s the Snapchat generation that is accelerating ecom growth, at least according to Gregorie.

The GenZ people basically took their Shopping to mobile devices for a large part and that’s where apps like snapchat really shine.

For the Snapchat generation: mobile screen is their new showcase, they no longer need to go window shopping, it’s all on their mobile screen.

But the final purchase can be made elsewhere, not just in the app so do not focus on just mobile, it’s still just one part of the puzzle and a full scale funnel approach is needed.

Gregorie shared some more interesting data on the Snapchat audience.

I knew that they had a large user base, but didn't expect it to be this big and that engaged. Check these numbers :

Snap has 500M+ monthly users around the world!

Their users average 30 app opens per day and 30+ minutes spent on the app per day.

73% make online purchases at least once a month, 60% make in-app purchases.

That’s quite impressive and clearly shows why this audience should be on the radar of any eCom entrepreneur.

The real strength of Snap is in the camera.

According to Gregorie, Snapchat is actually a camera company! 200M+ of their users engage with Augmented Reality and 5B+ snaps shared per day.

Gregories shared some interesting videos from their AR try on feature - it’s basically trying products from companies in the virtual space.

Not sure how this works to be honest since I have never tried it myself, but companies can create virtual shops where customers can try the products in AR and then buy them, looks like a cool feature.

19M+ are using this already, which is huge.

Snapchat supports several ad formats for content strategies, you can find more details about this in the PDF with slides.

There are basically 4 formats that you can use.

Dynamic Ads
Snap Ads With Webviews
Collection Ads
Story Ads

Gregorie ends his presentation by talking about the future for Snapchat.

They put a lot of focus on privacy centric solutions - permission based communication, trust, privacy rules in place since day 1!

Which means this platform shouldn't be that much affected by the recent privacy rules.

Public Profiles - This is a very nice feature and it’s available to everyone already, companies can build dedicated pages that people can subscribe for, have access to AR experience and to host a native store.

Native stores are integrated with Shopify so if you are using that platform, integrating with Snap should be a breeze.

Scan - Snapchatters are scanning the world and you can use these scans to shop.

This basically means that their users are mapping the world with their cameras and whatever photo they take, the AI scans it and uses this to find similar things or products.

This is really kind of crazy. Imagine that you see a snap from someone and you like their outfit, the snap AI will tell you where you can buy such clothing… quite nice and could become really huge in the future.

Seems like they really do believe in the future of Augmented reality and they are really making it a strong part of their platform. Let’s see how far they can take it.

That’s it for today. As always, you can download the PDF with high rez slides, the link is below:
