This was a very interesting and energizing presentation to watch as the speaker was QUITE passionate about what he was presenting.
And I also learned something new today, because frankly, I didn’t even know a platform like ETSY existed
So let’s take a look at what ETSY is in the first place.
ETSY is one of those platforms that were made to sell HOMEMADE products from independent makers.
We have something similar in my country and I’m pretty sure it’s the same in many other countries.
So how is this relevant to sellers who do not directly make their own products?
As Andrew explained, ETSY is no longer just that, the platform has evolved and you can sell mass produced products or even products from China on the platform these days.
Some rules paply for sure, but it is possible.

What can you actually sell on ETSY? The answer is simple: UNIQUE products.
Simply buying something from Aliexpress or re-packaging something common that everyone sells is not going to work.
But as long as it unique, pretty much everyone can sell on ETSY.

That brings us to the next question: WHO can NOT sell on ETSY.
Well, check the following screen, it’s pretty much self explanatory.
And you can always check their policy here: https://www.etsy.com/legal/handmade

How easy is it to start selling in ETSY?
Based on Andrew’s presentation, it’s literally a piece of cake.
Setting up the store takes just a few clicks and so does making the actual product listings.
But how does selling on ETSY compare to selling on Amazon or starting your own ecom store,
Andrew goes into great detail, comparing the difficulty of the setup process, SEO options, communication with the customer and also the customization.
You can check the slides to get a better idea (download slides here), but let me sum it up really quickly.
ETSY is a closed ecosystem with its own stable customer base, which basically equals to free traffic, since the customers are already browsing the product pages and they might find yours too.
The volumes are way lower than you can get at Amazon, but they sold $5 BILLION worth of goods in the past year, so that’s not shabby at all.

ETSY does allow some level of communication with your customers and you can even link to web properties outside of the platform, for example to collect leads, which is something that Amazon doesn't really like.
ETSY has a pre-defined format, with some built-in SEO functions, but the customization is nothing compared to a
This makes it limited in a way, but not everyone needs super advanced customization either, right?
All in all, ETSY is extremely easy to use, you can basically start selling on the platform in minutes.
So if you have a product that would be a good match with their user base, this is a no brainer.

I personally spend thousands on Etsy a month, don't sleep on this guys.
My mom has decorated their entire house with Etsy, the customers are fiercely loyal and spend outrageous prices for handcrafted anything.
