Ads aren't displaying from mobile
I have been trying to figure out why all of a sudden my personal tiktok account isn't show me ads any longer. I even went ahead and created another account, and still not seeing any ads.
Has anyone seen this before?

I've just browsed tiktok for a while and didnt see a single AD either... could it be GEO related maybe? Did you see ads before and they just stopped appearing?
BTW: try to update the app, it often helps when apps stop performing as they did before

You're not the only one:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Tiktokhelp/..._an_ad_on_fyp/
Makes me wonder if it's just Tiktok doing some split-testing to find out the "sweet-spot" between user retention and how many ads they can show without too much adverse impact.
Are you just not seeing ads on mobile? Or on desktop as well?

Interesting find Amy, looks like many people are not seeing ads on tiktok and it's not a new thing at all... that reddit thread is one year old.
Makes me wonder whether they are able to sell the full inventory, since their ad network is still pretty "new". Maybe they are somehow segmenting users and only showing ads to those who meat their criteria...

Yup that reddit thread was started a while ago - and it looks like people are still experiencing the same - some of the replies are from the recent week/month.
I have doubts about the inventory not selling - advertisers are always looking for more traffic. Any "imbalance" in the supply and demand should only be reflected in the CPMs. As for segmentation of users - don't think that would be likely either, as most advertisers know to go broad when targeting on Tiktok.
But then again - this is just speculation.
Tiktok's ad platform was introduced in Jan. 2019 so it's not exactly new - although it obviously took them a while to develop their system/algo to what it is today, and still has quite some room to grow in terms of giving most advertisers the results they need and can potentially get from the platform.

Yup, I'm purely speculating too since I'm not seeing any Ads either. Might be simply some issues with the app, hard to say

Yea I use to get a ton of refi/auto ins offers (I am in the US) sometimes even cool e-com products, but then they just stopped for me.

I haven't tried logging in via desktop, always used the updated app on my phone.
EDIT: I would even get an ad as soon as I opened the app (usually big brands), that even stopped.

Yup those are called Top View ads.

Please do report back if you try it. I'm not able to see TT ads from desktop - not sure if I ever did.
When you said you created a new account, was it using the same phone (as for the old account)?
Is there anyone else living in the same residence as you? If so, can you check whether they're still seeing ads?
If they are, then that would rule out your IP as the reason. Maybe use an old smartphone and get a SIM card for it and open an account from there to see if ads show up.
If all else fails, there's always this:

Which although can't replace spying in the wild, would definitely be better than nothing for inspiration!

TikTok ads are mobile only. You'll never see them on desktop, only on a phone or tablet.

Thanks for clarifying! One less thing to test then.

Yea I think this is what the problem was, I was only looking at ads, then not converting on top of it haha.
I tried setting up an old iphone and new account, but still not getting ads. I found a spy tool to help give me some inspiration, thanks for the feedback!

I've got an interesting observation to add to this topic.
For the past 5 days I've been in Dubai, attending the Affiliate World conference and when I checked the TikTok app there, it was all ADs... like every 5th or 7th video was actually an Ad, mostly advertising property you can buy in Dubai.
Now when I'm back at home in Slovakia, I don't see any Ads again, not even a single one and I've just spent about 15 minutes on it, watching like 50 videos just to make sure it was a long-enough session.
So apparently, there is nothing wrong with the app, it's likely related to the GEO more.

That would be because you can't target Slovakia lol but accurate none-the-less regarding geos.

Ah, so it's not possible to target Slovakia by Ads in TikTok yet? That definitely does explain this hehe
