Global pandemic and the worst GEOs for you
The global pandemic has hit all aspects of our lives pretty hard. Businesses' revenues have dropped substantially, because promotion is working worse, and customers' ability to pay has decreased. Many do not have the opportunity to redeem the goods, because they are locked at home, quarantined. The only way for us to emerge victorious from this situation is to avoid GEOs with bad coronavirus situation. Let's break it down and decide which countries are better to bypass for a while and save budgets for others.
FYI: This material discusses publicly available information and covid-statistics relevant today. The recommendations are of an informative nature only.
GEO with the deteriorating situation
France
The French government intends to tighten the coronavirus policy. Health passports are required to visit institutions and public places, office workers have been transferred to remote work, and it is impossible to travel around the country without a document of vaccination. The rate of infection is skyrocketing, and no relief is in sight. Although self-isolation is not necessary, strict disease policies and a growing number of covid dissidents make it difficult to promote in the region.
Ireland
People are getting infected more and more often. Every day tens of thousands of cases are detected, which breaks all records, because this summer the number of sick people did not exceed even 500 people per day. On December 8, 2021, the government imposed new restrictions due to an increase in the incidence of the disease. The presence of people in public places has been restricted, and strict rules for travellers have been introduced. We advise you not to work with this region, or do it with extreme caution. However, it is worth mentioning that gambling has only become more popular amidst the pandemic in this region.
Austria
Despite the cancellation of the lockdown, users in Austria are still restricted. A certificate of antibodies is required to attend events and public places, a certificate of vaccination does not exempt from this measure. In addition, infection rates have increased again since the lockdown was cancelled, which could lead to new restrictions. Omicron, a new strain of coronavirus, affects even vaccinated users, so infection rates are rising again. Germany has already put the region on the list of countries with a bad Covid-situation.
Denmark
In September 2021, the government announced that it was ready to lift all restrictions. The population tried to return to normal life, but in less than two months the quarantine was declared again. In October, there was a spike in the incidence of disease, so from the beginning of November, the region reintroduced the sanitary pass regime and tightened restrictions. These measures were not enough, so the restrictions were tightened even more on December 17. Employees were transferred to remote work, and public places were closed. Now Denmark is the world leader in the incidence of the disease. Every day, 14,000 people are infected in the country, and the number is constantly growing.
Bulgaria
As in Denmark, the lifting of restrictions did not last long. With the onset of the cold season, the authorities brought back the anti-coronavirus measures. Now there is a very strict sanitary and access regime, so some businesses lost customers due to the requirements. This has led to a decrease in the solvency of the population. People are forced to work a floating schedule, and businessmen are forced to move half of their employees to remote work. There is no relief to be expected because the incidence of disease is on the rise.
Canada
Canada is a northern region with a cold climate. In winter, the incidence of disease in the country is on the rise, and anti-vaccine measures are getting stricter. Now the country has a sanitary pass regime, 50% of public establishments in the country are closed, and workers are actively transferred to remote work. The dynamics of the disease is growing, every day about 30 thousand new patients are identified. This number is growing, which means the measures will be stricter.
Summary
Coronavirus is bad for business and ruins the solvency of the entire population. We advise avoiding regions with severe restrictions and to look at countries where quarantine measures have been lifted, such as New Zealand, South Africa and Taiwan. And the main thing to remember is that the pandemic will not last forever, the main thing is to think positively and make the right decisions. And also do not forget that the situation in different countries is constantly changing, so you should keep an eye on the trends and work with those countries where the situation is most favourable.

They are changing their mind now that most other European countries are going toward less restrictions. It just needs to last until presidential elections in April.

Totally agree with this, unfortunately the whole pandemic situation had a pretty negative impact on the business and many niches very affected greatly by this. I think you highlighted well the ones that were hit the most, and I would also add gambling and travel niches here. As for GEOs, I guess Easter European countries suffered the most, although some bigger ones faced issues as well.

We're just compiling our annual "Whats working in AM" report and one of the questions is Covid related... looks like the effect wasn't that negative after all, at least for most. Some verticals have been definitely affected, but in general, traffic went up, people started to buy more online... Looks like most of the negatives happened on a personal level, such as no traveling, not possible to meet in person etc... but in terms of business alone, online actually went up. I'm not finished reading all the answers yet, but this is the impression I have so far. The report will be out very soon, so you can all have a look once it's published

Can confirm, having everyone trapped at home on their phones did wonders for me.

It was definitely very hard in the last two years, and many GEOs were affected hardly, and Europe was definitely among them. Fortunately, the situation is getting a bit better and many countries have started taking off restrictions so there are some reasons for optimism, but it will take some time for things to return totally back to normal, and it all costs businesses, but I believe that at least digital marketing area and affiliate part will continue growing as before, maybe even more.
