Question on TikTok paid ads strategy.
@cassshy @jack_l @ScottyG and other TikTok experts I have a question. Please help! I asked three "mentors" elsewhere who generally respond but haven't responded to this one for four days now. Not sure they are taking their time or just ignoring me for some weird reason. Hope to hear from you and anyone else who knows.
Here's my question:
I want to do video views ads of a product video ( ZERO interests - super broad targeting) in the USA (females aged 25 and above). Then retarget the engaged viewers with a conversion objective to my store ( add to cart or purchase objective depending on the minimum bid). Any thoughts on whether this could work?
P.S. I will implement this on my Pinterest ads campaign if you think it sounds fine. And then model the same on TikTok when I am ready.

I'm far from an expert, but the issue I see with that plan is that when you make a campaign for Reach or Video Views, you end up getting really low quality users who will be very unlikely to buy anything, ever. Your plan can definitely work if you retarget the views on a conversion goal campaign, but the quality of those visitors may also not be great at first, as TikTok needs to get some data so that it learns to serve to the right audience. Also, to run campaigns to audiences you need a pretty large membership for it to serve properly. It's worth trying, but it the end might end up easier just to try and get conversions from the start to teach the pixel to serve to the right users.

Thank you for making the excellent points. How about making the message clear on the ad copy that it's a sale or something right at the beginning of the message to keep tire kickers out? My concern is that for shopping ads I will need an audience like site visitors or those who have engaged with a post before. I cannot use keywords or interests targeting (for pinterest atleast - not sure about others). Then for a 1000 engaged videos if the algorithm shows it to 50 interested buyers at just 1 cent bid cap (on pinterest) it should be good enough?! Surely I am just arguing to make a case for myself without actually testing and blowing money.

But surely I need the feedback and sharing of experiences from those who have done similar campaigns and failed (or succeeded!). REALLY appreciate your feedback. Thank you very much again!

The ratio is closer to 10,000:1 views to interested buyers when performing reach or video view campaigns on TT.
It's possible when running multi geo, super wide, 18+ conversion campaigns and retargeting on FB/YT.

@
ScottyG I was thinking I was missing a name while doing the post and now I have edited the post to add yours.

For TT ads one surely has to keep aside a huge ad budget. I want to do the ads first on Pinterest... most probably today. And Pinterest surely has more buyer intent than Facebook and Youtube. I am reposting question for Pinterest as well. It would be too far-fetched and spammy to post this for YT and Facebook. But again, this strategy can be applied on any platform. I was just wondering if anyone has tried something like this and it worked for them. I just don't want to blow away money.

Ah well then if it helps, I know a guy that does this for his own ecom brand by placing pixels on FB, TT, Yt, Pinterest and running retargeting campaigns across all 4 platforms.
And he's quite successful with it

Looks like no harm trying it out.

I don't have to much to lose... like for Pinterest $17 for a 1000 views and the minimum bid for the shopping conversion is one cent there! Ironically for pin clicks the minimum bid is 10 cents. I see anywhere between 10 and 70 percent of pin clicks turning to outbound clicks to websites. Does TikTok have lead ads like Facebook? Pinterest does not have any.
I want to do broad targeting for video views as the reach with keywords and interests will be low and I want to get the audience quick. Just checking for how many seconds of view I get charged.
It's good to see someone using this strategy. This one just came to me from nowhere when I went for a walk by the beach after watching a 3 hours long pinterest tutorial.
