Play-To-Earn. A new round of gaming evolution?

Video games have gone through several stages of evolution: Free-to-play, free-to-play with a donation option, and paid games. Now the newest business model, which is becoming more popular among gamers, is Play-To-Earn (P2E). In the early days of the industry, games were sold on CDs and DVDs, moving to digital format much later. In the last few years, many free-to-play games have appeared in many game libraries, designed for in-game purchases made by the player. In many cases, this is more profitable for developers than selling a licensed version of the game. But what if not only the developers, but also the players made a financial profit for playing?

What is Play-To-Earn?
The essence of P2E (Play to Earn), is that during the game, players get different items and increase the level of their characters. Each has a real value in the form of NFT, so player can sell them, for example, for cryptocurrency. The player does not have to pay for access the game. Hovewer, he can pay for additional content of the game, items, development acceleration etc. That way developers reward players for putting their efforts into a game. The advantage of this model is that gamers always create some value that can be sold. Many gaming assets are represented in the NFT, and there is usually a marketplace for buying/selling them. NFTs can be used as proof of ownership of a particular digital asset. This technology has made many digital items a real commodity. It has also made it possible for players to trade game items and characters on the free market.

Are there already any P2E games?
The answer is YES, there are already many P2E games in which players create and develop characters and are rewarded for completing tasks in the form of various items. Each one is a NFT and can be sold both in-game and on various marketplaces. The more time a player spends in the game, the more valuable items he can get. This is also very profitable for developers, as the game becomes a marketplace in which various deals are made between the players and the developer. For example, in Axie Infinity - one of P2E’s most popular games, players train and use creatures which represented in the NFT and can be sold. Gameplay in other games may vary, but the main assets are always represented in the NFT. A few other popular P2E games are Gods Unchaine, CryptoBlades and Zed Run which have similar mechanics to Axie Infinity. In P2E games, players can earn $100-200 a month. Many people quit their jobs to play and earn NTFs all the time. This creates great prospects for this type of gaming in the future.

Future of industry
Major developers realize that in the future the Play to Earn model will become the mainstream in the video game industry, and are already implementing it in their projects. Players won't have to buy weapons, characters, or items, they will now earn tokens. Even though in-game tokenization has only just begun in 2021, this trend will only become more popular in the future. Blockchain technology has once again managed to create something incredible, now at the level of player interaction. The P2E model is not a marketing ploy, but an attempt to shape a new economic model in video games. Thus, the P2E model can be called a revolution.

Very interesting!

I've been seeing so many ads telling people "you can earn this much money playing games!" Been wanting to check them out but haven't yet. So this is how they work!

Many people quit their jobs to play and earn NTFs all the time.
Intriguing! Can't wait to see where this will lead the entire gaming industry.
