Helllloooo
Maynzie here, back with another case study, but no ordinary case study this time lol. Nothing to do with the traffic sources we talk about here, but a loop hole I discovered when I was purchasing myself an item on ebay around 4-5 months ago.
I was looking at ebay at some ipad 2's and was looking at the price of the ones from AU stores vs the price of buying from the US (+shipping) because in the US you guys get mad cheaper deals compared to AU haha, come to Melbourne and see what I mean :O!
Anyway, after looking at all the models available something popped out to me, and it was the 32gb wifi + 3g model.
First of all, this product had some serious demand in Australia and people were purchasing them left right and center. So I saw that in Australia they were selling for around $840 (+~$50 shipping) and in the US after an Intense as google browsing shopping session I found a store that they were selling for $700 (+~$50 shipping as well!)
So I thought to myself, and it was only for this exact model was there a loophole in the price tags, there was a $140 difference in the models.
So what did I do?
I started Maynzies marvellous marketplace, not really was just your average as looking ebay store, put up some ipad 2 buy it now's and at the end of the day I would see how many sales I had made.
I got the buyerss details, went to the cheaper US ipad 2 store, put in their details and bang, away went the ipad 2 direct to their door, in which I never even saw it and I pocketed the $160 in between.
How many sales a day?
Anywhere from 0 to the highest of 11!
I sold a lot of ipad 2's over the next month, but 2 months into this campaign, the store that I was buying from discontinued the ipad 2 selling, and probably a week later AU had a price dump on the model as well, and I could not find another way to make the profit in between.
So for a good chunk of change, doing virtually nothing, this campaign really rocked my world!
All I wanna say, keep your eyes open all the time, I bet there are plenty of these loop holes out there too, just gotta always be aware for simple ideas out there
Anyway, there's another more unique case study to shake up yo IM'ers lives and some fresh ideas if facebook got you glum, leadimpact's snoopyness is taking its toll or POF getting stricter on your ad approvals ><!
Love yas!
Peace STM'ers, Maynzie out!
Arbitrage at its finest, well done =)
Haha that's the word I was trying to think of haha, thanks man!
Australian customs will charge the buyer...
Customs will place the charge upon the courier (Australian Air Express) who will then bill you once its been delivered.
You might want to check that, but that's what I found out when I wanted to buy from the US.
Nontheless, cool idea. Now that the US dollar is so weak there are some great bargains
Yeah I never got any complaints of any tax or duties from the buyers, got rated well actually haha
But yeah thanks for clearing that up Hannah
