Has anywhere done any split tests of RON vs categories with mobile traffic?? What have you noticed?
I'm testing a lot of mobile traffic and haven't played around with categories at all. I have a feeling it severely limits volume
I have...to some extent on JumpTap. Categories don't really mean much. The sites are more important.
What's even more important is the fact that some sites opt out of dating and PIN submits being advertised.
This was for a dating campaign I ran on JT in November. Make of it what you will. Angry Russian stated that RON is mostly throwaway traffic, and I would have agreed until I ran this report. I agree with his comment that categories aren't terribly useful for optimizing. Sites, handsets, OS's, etc are far better.

This is what im experiencing by targeting every category.
On JT my rep advised to chose all categories and to block RON from the start since RON is literally the backfill of the backfill. I've made money doing both.
My rep mentioned that the publishers get to select their categories and hence they could be inaccurate.
All interesting info, especially pubs choosing the cateogries.. could screw everything up.
Looks like RON had the most ROI for you naildog, for some campaigns i'm testing right now i would have to pull my hair out to test categories ontop of everything.
I do want to run a split of an offer in it's respective categories vs RON
Also, according to my rep, RON traffic is the traffic from pubs that don't (or forgot to) select their categories. ABT.
Looking at stats, you'll see same publisher on different categories, not sure for JT but I signed to several other networks as a publisher and you just select those parameters at signup, for sure there is a review, so you dont end up with adult stuff on utilities category for example... but its very inaccurate. But, before I have the ability to block pubs on JT, I used them anyway to block some sites. of course you could end up blocking good sites with this method... About Ron, I did not split test yet.
