Need Help with Outbrain(Native Ads)
I have pretty Noob Questions regarding Outbrain, if someone cud help me, i wud be grateful.
1. While running ads on Outbrain, does selecting the correct audience interest have any effect on your conversion rate? Or is it better to go with broad targetting?

And what potential reach shud one aim for?
2. In my RedTrack tracker, i am only able to see publisher stats, i am unable to see section stats. Is it only in my case or is it with everyone?

3. And my tracker shows stats for publisher ID, Section ID

I am unable to locate any of these IDs in my outbrain account. So, are these IDs of any use? Or are they useless?
4. In my publisher stats(in tracker), i am seeing some publishers that don't show exist in outbrain. So, is difference in stats a normal thing? Is this sign of bot traffic?

I have asked 4 questions but even if you know answer to 1 question, please do reply.
Thanks

Hey @
Rhino -
I'll do my best to answer them
1. I would not use interest targeting on Outbrain. I think they added it because that's what all ad networks seem to want to do now, and it might kinda work, but in general everyone I talk to just runs Outbrain r-o-n. I've tried it interest targeting before and haven't had success.
2. So on Outbrain one 'Publisher' can have multiple 'Sections' within it. I usually optimize based on sections, but once every few months I'll filter all my campaigns combined through 'Publishers' and then block the ones that are obviously not any good.
3. & 4. So the above Publisher/Section thing seems to cause problems with some trackers... I don't know why... I think with this you're just gonna have to work with your tracker support team and/or look through it + the Outbrain docs until you get to a reporting setup you like. I believe I have mine set to show performance by section... with that said, I get the same thing where its always kind of mixed up... for instance all the CNN's are always combined in my tracker for some reason...
But yeah, you should be passing the conversions to Outbrain and then you can just optimize the sections and publishers from inside their dashboard. (or you can use TheOptimizer which is great too

)
PS I'm not sure if you saw @
jaybot's comment on the other thread, but I just wanted to mention that I would recommend being SUPER careful with your tracker so you don't get an account ban. They seem to have gone a little overboard with their anti-cloaking efforts lately, and if you try split-testing advertorials it could be a big problem since they'll (wrongfully) think you're cloaking.... OR... even more importantly, I would make sure not to use an affiliate link that is going to redirect to some random grey-hat offer when clicked via the wrong geo. So if you're running Clickdealer or Clickbooth or etc you need to change your settings so the offers don't auto-rotate when clicked from the wrong geo. Otherwise the Outbrain moderators in Timbuktu or wherever they are will click on your advertorial for Life Insurance and instead of going to a life insurance offer they'll wind up on some questionable sweeps lander and *pop* you're account is disabled :/
But yeah good luck with the campaigns though man! I do very much like Outbrain! I would also recommend split-testing both 'Semi-Automatic' and 'Fully-Automatic' targeting... they both work well but are somewhat different so good to see which works better for your campaign.

Yeah, everytime i want to split test or change my landing page (within same campaign) i will make changes in flow/template of my tracker and will not inform outbrain/revcontent about it. Because, i don't want to wait an entire day to get my new stuff approved.

Well if you're just changing the headline on the landing page or something that's probably fine... but if you're switching to something totally different (like a totally different landing page on a different domain) I would use a new tracking link and deal with the hassle of adding new ads... all depends on your risk tolerance obviously though...
