Hi everybody!
Please tell me how do you choose a bid to start with and how do you define your position? If I want to take the first position, I can bid very high on SmartCPM. If I want to get a stable second / third place or test different positions and understand which ones are right for me, how can I choose a bid?
I also often have a problem with the unexpected death of a campaign. I can launch a campaign and make it profitable in a week / two. But then the campaign may suddenly almost stop receiving traffic and the cost of conversion will increase significantly. Raising the rate does not help (
P.S I'm talking about banner campaigns, of course.
Thank in advance
And yes, I had a problem with narrow campaigns. I ran pops on one source "redwap" and it did not give traffic at any bid. Did anyone have such a problem?
When starting a new campaign, do not try to aim for the top spot. You should only do that when a campaign has been fully optimized and you want to increase the volume as much as possible.
The only time I'm making an exception to this rule is when I want to test something really fast.
In most cases, I still get better results when I'm not the top bidder anyways. I try to aim for 2nd-5th place in the chain. In reality, you never know what spot you are on exactly, as that changes with time... competitors come and go all the time, some people run dayparted campaigns, there are different types for different segments of traffic etc... What I'm doing is raising the bid a little at a time. At some point you will realize that the traffic you get only increases by a small bit with every additional bid increase, which means you are close to the top spot and that's where I like to operate.
