Meta / The Metaverse
Who watched the Connect 2021: our vision for the metaverse?

Anyone already using their Quest and Horizon products?
When I see everyone sticked to one's phone not realizing what is going on around them, I am struggling to understand how deeping deeper into VR would help people being more in the present. But would love to get your opinions? And what could be the impact on advertising too.
Edit 13/11: let's make the topic bigger, not only Meta, but the Metaverse in general

Imagine of instead of having Zoom meetings, you can go to the metaverse and have meeting with someone or with colleagues in a virtual world coffee shop. I think the future lies in the META!

Nah, who knows, I saw something similar happen years ago with Second Life, a lot brands invested there and created their own Islands but at the end, it ended up in being just a big world for xxx. The idea behind Meta is cool but the devices we have now are still to complicated to use for the masses.

I wanted to buy a Quest 2 when it came out but it´s still not officially available in Germany because of privacy stuff.
But I also wouldn´t buy it as long as you are forced to have a FB account for it, I just don´t like to support such forced systems.
Apart from that I also don´t like the direction of metaverse at all.
Instead of taking care that people have a good and intact real social life it rather helps to stay even more in the online world and that can´t be healthy in the long run.

I agree with you and @
twinaxe ... I think the 'Metaverse' as described by Zuckerberg is kind of cringe... I'm a huge Raoul Pal fan and he talks about it a lot, but in a much more sober way....
I think the Zuckerberg-tier 'Metaverse' discussion just makes it sound like another iteration of the Sims or Second Life but with NFT's this time...
I agree that that isn't an overly healthy direction to be going, but I also think they're wrong in supposing that is the direction people go...
Indeed if you look at it Instagram, what is the biggest 'flexing' people do? Going outside in nature... or working out and perfecting their (real life) bodies...
What are the most popular YouTube channels? Its not just gaming channels... alot of it is all these outdoorsy and 'back to the land' type of ones... and all the fitness ones...
So yeah... I think people's natural inclinations are too powerful for us to ever fully devolve into totally VR/pod people realities...
With that said, I do think the 'metaverse' as someone like Raoul Pal describes it is definitely a huge thing... in that economically... crypto has enabled such revolutionary changes to the architecture of money and value, that the "metaverse" ie the tokenized internet, is akin to discovering some new continent or something, in that there is such vast untapped and unbuilt value within it.
So yeah... I definitely think the 'Metaverse' is a huge thing... but I think examples of it are more stuff like Axie Infinity and DAO's and defi protocols like OHM and decentralized social networks and the degradation of the nation-state in favor of online communities... rather than stuff like Decentraland that are like Sims or Second Life 2.0...
Basically we humans are evolving into wizards... and whereas maybe 10% of the economy currently resides within the realm of the "magic" we have created, eventually it will be 90%... and the 'Metaverse' is what that 90% is filled up by...
Anyway @
jeremie great post... got me rambling like crazy lol...
