A significant difference between Taboola and Voluum clicks' amount

Hey folks!

I've been experiencing a difference between the amount of visits (clicks on ads according to Voluum) that I can see on TB dash compare to @Voluum. I can see on @voluum reporting of way more visits compare to TB , like 30%-40% difference. the time zone is the same.
So I would like to get your help here in order to understand what could be the reason and which one of them I should look in order to do optimizations and get decisions base on that metric which ofc cause the LP CTR as well.

Your help would be much appreciated

I have the exact problem with Thrive... however I have no idea what causes it...

I just pass conversions and Optimize in the Taboola dashboard only... but that has the disadvantage of not having any info on lp ctr obviously...

I suppose if you wanted to get super technical you could create multiple conversions in Taboola and have one fire for offer page views (as substitute for lp clicks) and one for actual conversions. On a low payout offer you can just block widgets by cpa though pretty cheaply (if you want to block widgets that is). On a high payout offer you could also just optimize based on add to carts too, if the aff network provides add to cart conversion events.

But yeah, no idea why there is all this click inflation with Taboola... don't see it with Outbrain really...

I'm pretty sure what you are looking at is proxy / hosting traffic.

Go to Traffic Sources > Double Click on your Taboola config > Set the first grouping filter to "Proxy" to get to the below report.

As you can see, ~22% of my tracked Taboola traffic is marked as Proxy traffic.

If you go further down in these reports you can see why this traffic is categorized as Proxy

Practically the below highlighted ISPs are hosting providers. The best thing you can do is to use flows and filter out such traffic straight away in case you are worried that it is screwing your statistics.

might be bot clicks or compliance checks done by traffic source.
Probably the same issue that i talked about in my previous native ads thread.

Hi @sportex!

Since you already mentioned that the timezone is the same, there is one more thing that comes to my mind!🙂

Traffic sources usually count unique visits only, while Voluum counts both: unique and all visits.
Please make sure that you are comparing the ‘Unique visits’ column with your traffic source.

Taboola uses lots and lots and lots of bot visits, presumably for compliance. I have campaigns that haven't run in months, yet they routinely get several bot visits a day from Taboola.
@jack_l talks about this quite a bit, he uses the Taboola dashboard or any native platform dashboard to analyze the data. You can also use TheOptimizer if you have it and just focus on the TS reporting. The only problem is TheOptimizer doesn't provide any drill down like Taboola or Voluum does.
