How to optimize Google Display Responsive Ads?

Hey there Google Ninjas

I have a google display campaign, just started this week and running responsive ads. So i am running 2 responsive ads, each with 5 images.
So far i have the first ad as a "winner" and google already showing me best images and headlines in the perfomance report.
Once you find a combo, what do you do with the rest of underperforming images/headlines? Do you remove them from the campaign?
Do you duplicate the top image+headline and start a new campaign? Is it ok to run google with only 1 ad? (and its variations of image/headlines)
Also how do you optimize top placements using bid adjustments to automatize it? Can you do that? Setting a bid adjustment per placement?
Running ads for for a while now so i am very familiar with all media buying principles, but a rookie with google. So far i am breaking even with 0 optimization so would be great to get some advice here.
Cheers!
