SMS (Data/Offers/Routes/Platforms) - Let's Help Eachother!

Hey guys, I'm a SMS publisher and part of AffiMedia B.V. and we send about 100k messages in the US every day, we also send steady volumes to AU and UK. Over the past 6 months I have seen the SMS marketing side of affiliate marketing change a lot and improve for the better, this also means that it get's harder to be unique. I want to bring all SMS pubs and affiliates together to brainstorm and help each other with their own experience and highlight challenges they have.

My main question of the day - What routes can take steady volumes among all carriers (including AT&T & Verizon)? Many routes seem to have issues with DLR on these carriers, can anyone help us out?

I always wanted to try sms marketing.

But no one wud sell me $100 worth of numbers(for testing). Most sellers won't sell numbers for less than $500.
Plus, i can't find any reliable sellers.

Also, are there any self-serving sms marketing platforms out there?
Because most people that i came across, wanted me to share the link and offer page with them. And they wud run sms campaigns on my behalf...Which i didn't want to do.

Curious here : What kind of offers are being promoted via sms marketing? What kind of ROI to expect? Do we need opt in data only to do it or any data works as good ? How much data ( minimum) is required per day to even test and ascertain if it’s doing well ? Can I sit with same data and use for different offers ?

In our experience it is key to understand where the data comes from, what is the original source where the data was generated. Ask yourself the question, why did the user opt-in? Was it to receive a free iPhone? a 100$ voucher? To receive auto insurance quotes?

To follow up on the data we always stick to what we know and try to stay close to the same sort of offer the user opted-in for, try to test your data's interest and if you see good interaction and statistics don't be afraid to scale out.

We strive for a net profit margin of 30% of the original revenue, so minus all the additional costs (sending cost, domains, data, etc.). Testing data can be done pretty fast, about 15-30k good numbers can tell you how "active" the data is based on CTR. However to test the quality of the data I recommend sending a pre-tested offer that performed well in the past and evaluate CR and EPC to test this properly I recommend a minimum of 50-100k of numbers.
