Spent 400k$ on OB last month, now performance down
Hi guys,
i am new here and very happy to be able to mastermind
Last month we spent over 400k$ on Outbrain, mostly in Germany. This month the performance is going down a lot, CPCs increase and new creatives/landers dont seem to help (i launched like 4-5 campaigns in the last month to always have fresh content, but now the fresh content also dont convert anymore). The CTR stayed pretty much stable all the time. The conversion Rate also is down little bit. Campaigns always run on fully automatic bidding.
So i am asking myself are the CPCs increasing maybe because of Q4?
Is the offer burned out? (there is lots of competition right now)
Or am i missing something else?
And what would be steps you would consider to turn the campaign around?
I am already launching new creatives and landers, but so far without success.
Very curious to hear your opinions.

Yes, cpc/ad spend usually increase in Q4.
Are you running affiliate offer or personal offer?

Hey man -
Well first of all, MASSIVE congrats on your success... being able to spend 10k/day profitably on an offer on Outbrain - especially in one geo - is a huge accomplishment.
I've been running on Outbrain for three years now and have only managed that one single time...
As regards a dip in performance... its very possible you're just a victim of your own success, and you've just burned it out a bit in Germany because you've done so well with it...
Perhaps you can lower the budget in Germany while retaining the profitability and then scale laterally to Poland/France/Austria/Spain/etc...
But again, massive congrats man... that's absolutely awesome...

I really can recommend to start out with native ads, it will give you a much smoother start than facebook. If you need any help please feel free to shoot me a message!

Have you tried to change the overall angle? I mean, it can totally be related to Q4, but it's also quite possible that you are facing burnout.
I'm not sure what type of offer it is that you are running, but with that volume, it might be becoming too saturated. But it can also be the angle you are using, that can get saturated quicker than the offer/product.
When the Ads/Angles are the problem, the final CVR usually decreases too... is that the case? Or is the traffic still converting the same and it's just the higher CPC that causes problems?

I decreased the budget now and cut some placements etc. Now the performance is OK again, just lower volume. And yes i guess maybe the angle got a little bit burned. Thanks for the help, i appreciate it!

Angle burnout can be deadly, especially when it happens to get ripped by other affiliates/marketers left and right. The good news is, quite often it requires just some small changes and it can start working well again, try to revive it.
