Hmmmm.. that's like thinking about buying a helicopter or a private plane. Both do technically the same thing, but are completely different still. You may wish to figure out what exactly you want to do.

Yeah, lol. Take whatever Jaybot would lose and divide by 10 or more

In all honesty, I still think $5000 is the magic number to get started.

Unless you’re a natural wizard and can blow shit up at $4k in a few months like @ScottyG but that is fucking rare, I wouldn’t count on magic like that.

It really depends on your goals...

If you're totally broke and 18 and hustling like crazy and you want to learn media-buying as a skillset (which would be very smart), you probably do it at $20 a day spend if you focused on push or pops or even native, but it would extremely, extremely slow going obviously... but once you learned it you could start doing consulting for it on Upwork, running ads for people as an agency, etc... (presuming you did indeed master it and get good at it)...

If on the other hand you're 35 and you have a family to support and you want to learn how to make a first world income on media-buying/affiliate marketing and you want to attempt to master it within 6-12 months let's say, I'd suggest starting cash of like 50k+, ideally even more...

Again though, it really depends on your goals, the traffic source, and a bunch of other stuff

Of course it helps to have much money available but there´s one thing you can´t buy: Experience.

In the end money is just one factor.

Much more important is how fast you learn and how good you understand the "mechanics" to run campaigns.

If you have a good understanding of all these things and if you are a fast learner then you probably don´t need that much money and time.

When affiliate marketing just isn´t your thing and your mind isn´t made for it you can have all money on earth and still never learn it.

I always say this: $3k to have a solid shot at AM, doable with less but much more complicated.

But that's just the first part. How much to become profitable? That depends on how much gifted, hard working, dedicated, skilled, stubborn or superpowered you are... those $3k might be enough, some need $30k, some never make it.

Hard to answer this question

I want to share my spending journey but I dont want to scare a new comer.

Just be patient and work with the flow, you will get to profit zone eventually

Within $5k I guess there is a very fair chance to see several green campaigns.

Not sure if it is enough to reach break even. Probably depends a lot on skills and own psychology.

For me it was quite a challenge to swallow losses and then go on as if nothing happend. In other words I had to learn to get emotionally detached (which costed me a lot of money).

Probably it helps more to define monthly cost and then monitor progress. Spending $5k isn't too hard. Spending it wisely is different story.

Time is money, you can accomplish it with $2,000 usd.

But you will spend the first 4 months studying 12 hours a day before you launch your first campaign.

Or, it will cost $10,000, but you launch campaigns day one.

This is probably one of the hardest lessons to learn.

When you´re just starting out and have only losses it´s hard to imagine that just one good campaigns can compensate losses of hundreds or even thousands of Dollars.

In other words I had to learn to get emotionally detached (which costed me a lot of money).
Yes, getting emotionally attached to campaigns is a huge killer.

You can also have campaigns that bring steady conversions each and every day but not enough to be profitable.

Then it can easily happen that you try everything you can to get it running on profit because you already put so much time and work in it but at one point you just have to let go.

This is also a reason why a high budget is much better than a low budget.

When you start with low budget the risk to make decisions based on emotions is much higher than starting with a high budget.

Let´s say you start with only $500, then a campaign with $100 test budget would be already 20% of your total budget so you don´t want to loose any money and probably stop tests too early or so.

With $5k the $100 test would be only 2% of your total budget, there you are much more likely to give your campaigns the time they need because even when it´s a total fail it doesn´t have such big impact on the total budget.
