Need help with malware attack.
My keyboard started spitting out weird "latin characters" a few days back and some keys stopped functioning and I could at times login with my onscreen keyboard. I googled from my phone the possible cause it suggested a malware attack. And as suggested uninstalled the keyboard driver and restarted. Things suddenly went perfectly fine. I had tried reinstalling windows (without sacrificing current files) and that did not help. Suddenly today I clicked somewhere to authenticate name and email as a webpage didn't seem to load. Suddenly my keyboard is behaving that way again. Now uninstalling keyboard, running malwarebytes, and other antivirus.. . NOTHING seems to help or detect any virus. Please can anyone who has the knowledge on this help? 🙏

Maybe your keyboard is just broken?

Nope it isn't. And for now it's working fine. Randomly it will start again. I was pretty occupied postponing replying to even urgent emails, checking stm forum, and many other things. Now this situation gave me the chance.

It's not the keyboard because would not have been fine after uninstalling it last time after a lot of problem.

I've had a keyboard behaving in a weird way some time ago and it was indeed a problem with the keyboard, once I replaced it all went fine. Might be worth a try to test with a different one. I'm not saying this MUST be the case, but since I had it happen to me, I know it can be the case

Will give that a shot if nothing else works by Monday. But the problem is suddenly it's all working fine out of the blue with around 4 -5 hours wasted.

But I wrote a few emails and came over here, so it's not entirely 4 to 5 hours of waste. Not to bad.

Fingers crossed for my computer to behave from now on!

or have a permanent solution for this or get a new computer... but it will take me a few weeks to adjust if I work on another laptop. sigh.

I'm not much of a computer expert, but somehow I've managed the last 3 decades without ever taking my machines "to the shop".
If you come across better advice from experts either here on STM or elsewhere, that would be best! If not, maybe consider my suggestions below.
**********
Do you have another keyboard? Or have a family member you can swap keyboards with?
If so, swapping out the keyboard is first thing I'd do - just to rule that out. Just cause it's the easiest to do.
If the problem returns/persists, I would try to run more antivirus software. I know you said you've done that already, but how many types of antivirus removal software have you tried?
Go here and download 5-10 of various kinds of malware detection software:
https://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/sortda...i_spyware.html
You'd probably want to try 1-2 from each of the bottom 5 categories.
Install all of these software, and run them one by one. Set a 30 minutes to 1 hour alarm and let it run. Come back and use another software to start another scan when the alarm sounds.
If the problem still persists, I would either 1)just take the machine to a shop and let them back up your files and fix it for you, or 2)if possible, back up the files yourself, then format your hard drive and reinstall windows and everything else.
Also: Open up the computer's case to make sure there's not a lot of dust, and to clean it with pressurized air if there is. When a computer overheats all kinds of quirky things can happen. Also check if all the boards and cables are secure and not loose.
If after doing all that and nothing works, I'd just let an expert handle it. I'm sure that if you tinker with the computer long enough, and do enough online research, you'll eventually figure out what's wrong. But that may not be worth your time when you're busy being a marketer and not a computer expert - that's what I tell myself anyway.
And in the meantime, there's your spare laptop!
Wishing you lots of luck!
Amy

@vortex sounds awesome! The best advice!! I may order a keyboard online tomorrow even though everything is working fine at the moment. No one in the family uses a computer except me because I live all by myself.
Have a few friends here but they are more in to ipad and phones.

Similar thing happened to me. Then I removed all the breadcrumbs and other funny things and all fine again. I had no idea that I had a one week food supply in my keyboard
Maybe is a good idea to run all the "risky" stuff in a virtual machine so that you kinda seperate your environements.

Maybe it´s an even better idea to get rid of Windows

I got the following advice/feedback from a udemy cyber security instructor:
"Sounds like you’re going to a lot of bad websites
malware bytes is not an antivirus so I don’t know what the other ones are but you didn’t list any of them and you didn’t do a boot scan
and when you uninstall the driver did you delete it completely and let windows re-find one
If it is a wireless keyboard swap out the batteries to
Did you do an online scan from ESET Or get the virus removal tool from Sophos you probably have to do all of those if you’re infected not just one including super anti-spyware the free edition Malwarebytes alone won’t do it"

Thanks for giving me the biggest laugh I've had today!
I would never let things run to that state. My partner is deathly scared of bugs. Did the "funny things" you mentioned include a family of roaches?

All good advice. I would do all the checks suggested - as they don't take up that much time.
For drivers: I use Driver Booster and it does the job. There are lots of updaters available -

Good luck!

No roaches... everything in my keyboard is dead including some of my valuable hair that I once had on my head.
But am playing with lots of stuff when I need to think. So I break paper-clips and other things that somehow make it into my keyboard.
And of course I eat different kind of breads with sesame, poppy and sunflower seed and so on. Maybe I should water my keyboard and make it an office garden

Few months ago I really disassembled my keyboard completely to clean it.
We also have dogs and cats so additional to the usual disgusting things there was also a whole fur under the keys.
I washed and cleaned every single key, was the first time in my whole life that I did something like this (of course it's not my first keyboard).

Ironically, I haven't had a problem again since that day and I did nothing.
Strangely, this computer froze and won't even boot for a week when my sister passed away. Now I have my hypochondriac tendencies back for a bit ( but under control). Suddenly find a non healing ulcer in my mouth for 1.5 years. Planning to visit the skin specialist (who I know well from my earlier visits) in the upcoming week. I did become a "laughing stock" there several months back. That hospital is in Trivandrum, Kerala (may around 50 kms from where I am now - Varkala, Kerala) and that may mean I waste a day's work for that trip. Then vent my fears, spend loads of cash, and people have a laugh at my expense. Hmmm, Off to bed now. And hope this worry passes away in a few days. Off to bed now and hope to wake up fresh and fighting fit tomorrow.
P.S. As far as I remember @matuloo @jerememie @vortex were aware of the stress I was in before I shifted to this place. There were a few others who were super supportive... don't want to check that thread. sigh.

Visiting the doctor helped to clear your fears the last time, right? So don't delay this and go see the doctor again, it will be fine I'm sure!

I have a super old keyboard in my office that I refuse to stop using. It's a classic Chicony keyboard that are no longer produced

I tried to switch a few times but from some reason, I still prefer the old one the most. I think it's at least 15 years old by now and it also looks like that... and I really don't want to imagine what kind of creatures live between the keys

I should probably do the same as you and clean it LOL

My most sincere condolences regarding the passing of your sister.
Everything is made of energy when you look closely enough (E=mc^2). Your energy can affect (I would even go as far as to say DIRECTLY DETERMINE) the state of physical things in your surroundings.
Electronics are particularly sensitive to energy changes. My fiance and I were just talking about this during our walk yesterday. She was telling me how all her electronics kept acting up or failing during the few years when her mood and energies were at their lowest, and when her health was at its worst. Lots of people have reported similar experiences.
The body and mind connection is very real. Negative emotions such as anger, grief, guilt (etc. etc.) can have devastating effects on physical health. Stress is another major cause of physical issues.
So - please do take care of anything that may be bugging you mentally or emotionally. I don't mean sweeping them under the carpet and pretending they're not there - this is how trauma is formed.
I know this is an affiliate marketing forum, but the stresses of running a business online can really get to people. If something's gnawing at you, please don't hesitate to make a post to vent or talk about it. We can help one another through the tough times so we all stay sane and healthy.
Hope you feel better soon!
And which thread are you referring to specifically?

Yes, I had a long chat with a friend from Germany ( 70 year old lady) this evening and we had dinner together by the beach side restaurant. She talking more about forgetting the body and remembering our higher selves. She also thinks that I have this because of my regular morning meditations and such emotions pop up. Strangely enough this time I am not at all scared of seeing the doctor but concerned about wasting a full day at least and if there are follow up tests... I may waste more time. So, here time is the constraint not fear ( like last time).

Thank you very much for your comforting words! I really don't remember the thread nor want to check. I was pretty disturbed earlier this year about my health issues. I shifted from hometown to a beach side location and life got better in every way. But suddenly have some health concerns and not sure I am thinking too much. I found a lot of improvement with Ayurveda except a few symptoms.

This is your mind fucking with you, seriously. I have the same problem

I don't like to take care of various "official" things, so like getting some permits, accounting shit, registering a car etc... whenever I have to take care of something like this, my mind searches for all kinds of excuses and "wasting time" is my brains favorite excuse lately.
One day lost doesn 't mean shit, go see the doc and dont delay it!

Try with another keyboard for a couple of days. If so, that might be a hardware problem.
If you can't figure it out with the tips given here, I would advise to look for advice in specialized forum, or take it to a specialst who will do a deep cleaning.

Weird as it seems - everything's fine suddenly ( so far!) minus any human intervention!

Maybe it's because you've been so busy with your promising projects, you forgot to put your focus (and negative expectations

) on this laptop.
Removal of negative energies = seemingly miraculous recovery of your electronics. Been there. Still intrigues me when I see it happen.
At any rate - great to hear!
