Facebook Dating Follow Along - A Newbie's Journey (13)

Facebook Dating Follow Along - A Newbie's Journey

I'm being totally original and taking dating to Facebook for the first time.

Following some semi-success on daily deal offers on Facebook, I thought it'd be worth trying something a bit more challenging and with a higher pay-out.

I also have been seduced by the volume Facebook can push. I've got a feeling when I hit a winner that Facebook could push some really pretty mammoth volume for me, and make scaling a hell of a lot easier.

Details:

Network: EWA
Offer: be2.co.uk (FB only)
Country: UK
Pay-out: $7.25

I opted for this campaign as I saw it was one of the top performing dating offers on Social. So it seems simple, right - If other affiliates are getting it to work, then so can I?

I'm already at Day 3, and here's the story so far.

Day 1 - 1/31/2012
Clicks: 25
Leads: 0
Cost: $13.59
Revenue: $0
Profit: -$13.59

Day 2 - 2/1/2012
Clicks: 47
Leads: 7
Cost: $44.03
Revenue: $50.75
Profit: $6.72

Day 3 - 2/2/2012
Clicks: 20
Leads: 0
Cost: $14.08
Revenue: $0
Profit: -$14.08

Day 1 - Targeting was too broad. Created a new campaign and created some ads which were much more targeted.

Day 2 - Success! Targeting tightly with a reach of just over 40,000 worked. My frequency was up as high as 6.0, but it was profit for the first time.

Day 3 - Early days, still running the same tightly targeted ad group. But I'm wondering now, have I targeted too tightly than I have exhausted it already? Advice here would be appreciated.

My biggest problem is that my CTR is f**king awful, hence the high bid prices which are squashing the little profit I have had!

I'm running about 5 ads, and my best performer is running at 0.057% even when targeted so tightly. So my main goal is to get that up. Any tips???

I've spent a lot of time on the FB Spy tool on here, seeing how other people do things and I can't see where I'm going wrong.

I'll post my ads up tonight and get some feedback.

OK - 32 clicks, $20 spent and still 0 leads? What gives?

I'm very confused how I had 47 clicks yesterday on the same ad and 7 leads and 32 clicks today and 0 leads?

Is Facebook advertising really this inconsistent?

Could be that your demo is too small... could also be that if your angle is a popular one to promote, that they're already registered to Be2 (odd chance of this happening though I'd say).

Do you direct link or use an LP? If it's an angle you're using, I'd definitely suggest throwing up an LP to bridge connection of angle with site.

Also are you rotating other networks in? Sometimes that makes a HUGE difference

Edit: Also wanted to ask about targeting, didn't see you mention age-range... so make sure that all your targeting lies within the accepted age for the offer

spliting test to adsimilis network, they have highest payout and better CR on be2 offers. i have ran it on fb last few months ago. with LP, i got 1x-2x% CR and $1.x EPC. but got paused since traffics quality.

Hey man,

I'm not using an angle, just targeting people who are interested in other dating sites - eharmony, match, badoo. Very simple, direct approach, but I wanted to try that first before moving into different angles. But now I come to think of it - you are probably right. That's definitely a popular affiliate approach which may have dried up my targets for be2.

I just link direct for this one.

I'm not rotating networks, just using EWA. I will start rotating.

Thanks richardx.

Just signed up for Adsmillis from your recommendation.

Will definitely rotate with EWA and post results up here.

By the way, your avatar - I completely thought I had a bug on my screen!! That's great.

UPDATE:

It's past midnight here in the UK and I've thrown 51 clicks at be2 UK yesterday and nothing. Thoroughly confused. It seems as dubbsy pointed out that my approach might have been overused. But coming from daily deals on FB where my conversion rate was FREAKILY consistent day in, day out, I am shocked at how inconsistent this test was. 14% conversion rate one day, 0% the next. It's really weird.

Next Steps:
Rotate networks and offers - see which performs best
Create my own ads with my own angle - saw an angle on FB Spy tool for single mom's which is an interesting idea. I'm going to think along those lines. I also see EWA has a designated landing page for single parents so that should work a charm, in theory.

I'll post up my new ads once I have them done and approved tomorrow.

Basically, I'm going to keep going until I hit a profit. That might be 2014, but it will happen. I can't lose, if I don't stop trying, right?

Sorry. Been a while without an update but I've been busy working hard at trying to make this work.

I've picked my angle: Single Parents dating

I first tried this with the be2 Single parents landing page but it didn't really fly - I won't bore with the stats. Lots of clicks, 0 conversions. So the issue seemed to be the offer.

So I thought that be2 UK might be a bit saturated seeing as its the very first offer a few of my AM's have suggested to me for dating and apparently everyone and their dog is pushing it on social.

So I'm now running with the Single Parents Meet dating offer on EWA - payout is fairly decent $5.10 - and I'm direct linking to it. I've been running this angle for 2 days so far targeting single males (age 25 +) in the UK who have kids (any age). So nothing special going on with the targeting.

Facebook estimates this targets roughly 203,000 users...

Day 1:

Clicks: 81
Leads: 6
Spent: $49.71
Revenue: $30.60
Profit: -$19.11

I was happy on this day as although I lost money, there were a few ads bombing (one in particular with a slightly flirty image) and there were a few ads making all the money, so at the end of day 1 I paused the bad ones.

Day 2:

Clicks: 81
Leads: 16
Spent: $50.00
Revenue: $81.60
Profit: $31.60

Making money! I had only my good ads running and I also had decided to optimize further and split into age categories to identify which ages were performing the best. I found out pretty quickly 50+ age group were all clicks and no sign ups.

What I learnt:

- The targeted dating offer (SingleParentsMeet) has worked MUCH better than the generic dating offer (be2) with a targeted lander.

- Ads with pics of sexy girls looking flirty performed the best on CTR but the lowest on conversions. The pics performing the best on conversions were natural photographs of attractive women. The difference in conversions from just the pictures I chose really surprised me, I expected it to be more or less than the same across the board.

Day 3 (so far):

Clicks: 28
Leads: 1
Spent: $16.68
Revenue: $5.10
Profit: -$11.58

Early days yet, but doesn't look good today - What is it with Facebook and profit drying up after a day for me?

Questions for you - hope someone can help:

- Is my reach big enough? Is targeting 200,000 (roughly) users enough for a sustained profit?

- My main SubID providing most of the conversions has stopped appearing in my EWA network multiple subid report. Is there a chance this subid has been stopped for bad quality or anything like that?

- Do conversions fluctuate this greatly on Facebook? I thought I was going to hit profitopolis with weekend FB traffic!!!

Sexy images will yield high CTR, low CPC and low CVR too but you will have profit for sure. Apparently, you can get high CVR with natural type of images with low CTR

Following up on the EWA Network subid issue in my last post - I have noticed that my approved rating was 27.08% and was in bright YELLOW for warning as it was unnaturally high.

Could this be why this Subid has stopped today as it has been blocked or something? I will talk to my AM as soon as possible.

If so, that's crazy as I've only been targeting tightly at male single parents which of course will yield a high conversion rate. And 27% doesn't seem high for a conversion rate - I've hit that many times before.

I was looking through ewa and didn't find a singleparentsmeet offer. I am currently starting a be2 CA offer!

How did you're subid problem/0 conversions turn out? I hope you're banking it
