Auction domain VS live site (5)

Auction domain VS live site

Hello SEO masters,

1. Just wondering how buying aged expired domains (e.g. from godaddy auction) that are now offline VS live sites (e.g. aged sites from flippa.com) would be different in terms of the SEO benefits?

2. As long as I keep or add(restore) the page URLs that previously exited, will the SEO value remain? Or do I need to keep or recover the old content using tools like the wayback machine?
Someone recommended restoring the old content while others recommended not using old content for copyright issues e.g. https://flippa.com/blog/website-flipping-aged-domains/

Thank you

If you want to buy domains for SEO purpose, don't waste your time with the options you mentioned. There are specialists in SEO domains snapping, that then sell the domains. Price varies based on country / industry / domain strength. But at least you save time in finding which domain is worth it or not.

I work with these guys: https://edoms.com/

I keep the domains and put new content. Plus a 302 redirect for any useful backlinks left. You don't need to restore the content.

Probably depends a lot on the purpose too... if you're just trying to create a few pbn sites for backlinks vs if you're creating a small niche site vs a big branded site...

I'm not great at SEO by any means, but I did watch that Matt Diggity course all the way through several times, and he seems to suggest that restoring an expired domain is usually good, but in like 25% of cases can be bad, so for a big branded money site maybe better to buy an existing site or start from scratch and deal with sandbox period.

For a pbn site or smaller niche site, the 75% chance is more asymmetric.

Buying an existing site on Flippa is probably best (presuming it doesn't come with any big inherent flaws obviously), but that's probably the most expensive option too.

I'd always recommend getting a proper auction domain with great history. https://odys.global is our #1 source for such domains. We have worked with them for 5+ years and I can't recommend them enough.

I used to buy expired domains quite a few years back, they would retain significant part of the SEO value even after being offline for a while. At some point it has changed, when google did some change and once a domain was offline for a while or dropped, the algo would devaluate it.

I talked to a friend of mine who is into using dropped domains to boost his rankings and he told me that in order to retain as much value as possible, he recreates the pages that have links pointing to them. So not the full site, just those pages that he can find solid links pointing to. For the rest, he just sets up a redirect. He also mentioned that it takes some time for google to re-index the site and give it the value again. I'm not sure how reliable this advice is, so take it with a grain of salt
