Help needed with cookies - optimization and attibution issues

Hello STM people! I am learning so much from the forum it is unreal!

The time has come for me to ask for your help... So please bear with me if I do not pose the question as intelligently as I would like, but this is a new business we are running and I am learning as I go.

The help needed is with regards to how cookies are created and/or optimized in an ad network. Let me explain a bit.


We have created an ad network, where we buy traffic from websites and through a code, we place on their website, we then resell that traffic to advertisers. We have noticed however that the competition is placing completely different cookies for the same advertiser we run.


Also, we have noticed that if we run the same advertiser (a specific one) on the same publisher at the same time, no matter what they get the sale. The advertiser has first click attribution but it seems that their cookie bypasses everything.


Again I apologize for the way I am conveying the issue, my knowledge is very limited but I need some help finding out what they are doing and improve our cookie policy.

Do you have your competitors code that he uses to compare to yours?

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to technical stuff - but I'm wondering: How do you know the cookie was inserted at the particular publisher site and not on another publisher site on the same competitor network? Maybe they just have a wider net and some users just got cookied before they were even exposed to your ads?

After looking around for an answer I can clarify a bit more.

We need to find a person/tool that we can create and manage 3rd party cookies on our sites and our network.

If you have any suggestion towards that direction it would be amazing...
