Hey Guys,
I've been pretty active on AFF Playbook and joined here recently, definitely LOTs of great content on here and looking forward to making some $$. My background is in social so hopefully making the transition into mobile isn't so bad! A friend is also helping me get into media buys, and with some spare time, figured I'd get something profitable on mobile.
I threw up Meetmoi from Neverblue about 2 months ago and was almost breakeven without much optimizing
I've decided to avoid intermediate tracking (prosper202, CPVlab) and direct link straight to the networks. Campaigns in the pipeline:
MeetMoi
Unfortunately Meetmoi is capped out at Neverblue, though it's still available at other networks, so I'll throw up a campaign for that and so how it converts.
ThumbPlay
Def one of the top converting offers I've seen on a lot of networks, going to give this one a shot.
Be Naughty
Always wanted to promote this, but social never takes it =(, here's my chance =)
I'll be updating this thread as I get info back!
ThumbPlay
Okay, so I started this campaign out with on Tmobile and ATT & Android and Feature Phones. I have a friend who does mobile and he "hooked me up" with some data so I didn't use the usual 3 campaign setup dividing up Iphone/Android/Feature.
So.... I had 4 campaigns with about 14 creatives each (I was going to just make 10 creatives across all ad sizes like Angry Russian said in his guide but my jumptap rep bitched at me for uploading too many ads with my daily budget being below $100)
Here's the breakdown:
Tmobile - Android Phones
Tmobile - Feature Phones
ATT - Android Phones
ATT - Feature Phones
Results (so far)
Tmobile - Android Phones - CTR 0.2%, Bid .10
Tmobile - Feature Phones- CTR 0.8%, Bid .10
ATT - Android Phones- CTR 0.2%, Bid .10
ATT - Feature Phones- CTR 0.8%, Bid .10
Spend: $12.70
127 clicks
0 conversions
Click Loss like WHOAAA
Only 31 clicks showed up at my network, I think it's being caused by the feature phone clicks, looks like the android clicks are showing up just fine. Jeez, 75% clickloss? I never had the problem with Neverblue. I'm not going to say the network, but it's on Linktrust(obvious on 2nd thought), anyone experiencing similar problems?
Not sure if its a LinkTrust issue as I've never ran any mobile with a LinkTrust network.
That is a major click discrepancy, usually I'll allow for 15 % and just factor it as a "cost"
You JumpTap ad rep sounds like a dickhead you can do whatever you want nothing wrong with $100 budget. Ask to speak to a superior and find yourself a better one.
127 clicks isn't really enough to know whats what yet. I would axe any creatives that get low CTRs consistently off the bat. You want to maximize eCPM (CTR x CPC) since thats what the JT system uses to determine which ads to serve.
Thanks Alex,
Started watching Liane's webinar, granted, its from a few months back and maybe linktrust has resolved these issues, she said that a lot of mobile phones are on pooled IP's and linktrust has issues accepting the same IP or something along those lines, then again........ I know there are people crushing it on EwA/PKM on mobile, are those guys just not doing feature phone traffic or something?
@Kfeng - Groomez is not doubting that people are making money on mobile, he's just making sure you don't get carried away with what the hearsay is. People are making money with mobile.
In terms of your initial test you definitely need to spend more in order to gain some data. I'm not sure when you launched your test, but tmobile and att both had billing problems yesterday.
On EWA it lasted until about 2:00-2:45pm centralish time (when I heard from the emails), I tried running it in the morning and it was still paused on the networks end. The clicks won't track on the offer until it went back up.
Everything is looking back to normal on our end (more or less)
For benaughty the Android App they have converts pretty nicely compared to the web offers. I've tried both.
I'd split test so you can see for yourself
Yeah after about 2:45 central PM yesterday I unpaused and started getting conversions and clicks.
Alrighty,
So I joined a few more mobile focused networks:
-YeahMobi
-KissMyAds
-MobPartner
YeahMobi's selection seems kind of limited, I got in but haven't heard back from my AM yet on KissMyAds. No word from MobPartner either, read some thread earlier that Angry Russian didn't like them, but otherwise have read some good stuff on them, so I'll toss them in the mix and give them a go as their payment terms seem pretty reasonable too.
Updates on Campaigns:
FYI - I'll be outing my creatives as they fail
MeetMoi
Found MeetMoi at another network and decided to give it a go
Android - 0%, 1 click - yea everything failed!
Feature - .3% 94 clicks - pretty standard, CTR could be btter
IPhone - .1% 126 clicks - I've had an issue getting my CTR up on IPhone, I was able to make meetmoi profitable 2 months ago on iphone with a CTR of .20%
Conversions: 0
Data size is still small on this one
ThumbPlay
I started with the t-mobile one as I've heard it that the tmobile one does well.
Iphone -0.1%, 126 clicks- awful as usual, I just threw this up as a test, T-mobile doesn't even have Iphone, What the F***!
Android -0.2%, 21 clicks - Could use some improvement
Feature -0.6% , 167 clicks - Pretty good
Conversions - 0, maybe I need to can this one????
Be Naughty
I put this up on CA, Jumptap's volume in CA is hella weaksauce, gonna let it run through by nothing worth mentioning here.
Some Thoughts
I'm having a pretty hard time getting my CTR up for meetmoi, I was getting CTR's of .4-.6% with the same creatives two months ago, I can think of 2 explanations:
1. It's more competitive this time around, the good pubs have been narrowed down and are getting bombarded with better ads.
2. I used 2 month old data and blocked 3 bad sites that were bad 2 months ago.
3. Since I blocked the 2 "bad" sites, those sites were getting a lot of clicks but no conversions, so perhaps inflating my CTR but lowering my overall ROI, so maybe CTR is dropping from those 2 blocked pubs.
In anycase, I'm just surprised I'm having this much of an issue getting it profitable this time around.
Help/comments appreciated!

Ugh uploaded like 200 ads over the weekend and my account rep said I uploaded too many images, is this only happening to me? I've never had this issue with other traffic sources. Anyways, dumped some money into Admob and gonna try that tomorrow.
Which Meetmoi offer are you running? I reccomend the CPI Android App install. Been converting like crazy for us lately.
Marty
Thanks for the fast approval Marty, looking forward to it, I'll post my results here
