When is the best time to pause an ad when scaling on a day to day basis? 0.5X payout spent? 1X payout spent?

awesome thanks! so the same pause rules apply to the testing and scaling phase? i love that FB tutoruial by the way!!

I would say so yes! Having said that though - every campaign is different.

Thanks for the nice comment - I'm not an expert, but have run enough campaigns to help newbies get started. It's in my hopes that you'll all use that as a springboard and do further learning and experimentation.

As well: FB is changing all the time, so any tutorial is pretty much obsolete as soon as it's written. So continually testing different things will be crucial.
