Are you guys doing it? If you are, please explain or link to an article explaining how to do it in a nut shell... Reasons for doing this for me personally is that I heard that refferrer leaking is almost impossible and another reason is because some networks require an https pixel to be placed which really annoys me!!
But one thing I heard, please correct me if im wrong, but lets say I have a landing page with the prosper202 link on it, which is now an https link and the website/lp is a http.
When a user clicks on the 202 link, they might* get one of those, your leaving a secure website error messages.. and obviously drop your conversions!
Lp > 202 https link > offer page
The offer page is non secure sometimes, so your 202 link gives out that error? Idk please let me know your thoughts on this!
I very much like to know that as well.
I read two main ways to hide referrers
1) use double meta refresh
2) using https for p202
but i have not figured out how to do it properly. Would appreciate if guys can show the way.
Henry
Any help guys?>
"Double-meta refresh" is stupid. It doesn't hide referrers. It just wastes the user's time by sending them through pointless client side redirects.
I don't use https redirects for the exact reason you mentioned. I've always wanted to test to see if I'd actually lose clicks by using a https redirect, but it's something i never got around to.
You can always install SSL on your domain so you can use secure pixels, and still use non-ssl redirects.
In the end, you should test yourself. You're right to have concern that you'll lose clicks, but you really can't know until you test. Even if I, or someone else on the forum, has test results... you should still confirm on your own end. Your results could be totally different based on your audience demo (browser, security settings, etc) and your implementation of the tech.
I use SSL on my tracking domain only for the secure pixels.
I still redirect all traffic through the non secured version.
I haven't tested myself but a guy that does it says he didn't notice any loss of conversion.
Also , from a technical perspective , SSL will take longer to load that the non secured version.
If you run big PPV traffic where load time is essential that could really make a change.
Here's a post on setting up prosper202 for https http://masterlesssamurai.com/blackha...-https-server/
If you want to hide the referrer the LP has to be secure. Be careful with doing this because you will have to make sure that every element on the LP is secure or you will get the dreaded warning messages that causes drops in conversions.
Ok main reason was to get those secure pixels which Ill definitely get the SSL then.. Im hosting the domain with godaddy, so do i just purchase their SSL license for 50 bucks a year for the p202 domain I use? Also do i have to do anything on my end or it automatically verifies it or whatever and then I just make p202 output the secure pixel with https and im set right? Just want to make sure!
I mean i have the domain with godaddy but hosting it with Servint. not sure if that matters or if i have to go to servint to get the SSL on the domain... thanks!
Just buy a domain name at namecheap for $9 and you will get free SSL with it.
No need to spend 50 bucks at godaddy.
damn are you serious... ugh well i already have the tracking domain with godaddy and links all over the world lol... going with namecheap isnt an option. but if i buy the 50 bucks thing that will do the trick right and not fuck anything up? just cautious with my tracking domain as it makes me monies and campaigns are running...
I think that promotion has expired and they're $1.99 w/ domain purchase now. Either way, still the way to go.
Yeah , the $50 SSL will still do the job.
If you have never done this before just hire someone on odesk to do it for you.
Not worth risking your campaigns by experimenting yourself.
Doesn't Prosper202 cloaking handle that problem already? I was under the impression that it will blank your referrer (Landing Page URL) most of the time... but if it fails it will show the referrer as your Prosper202 domain (not your LP at least).
As far as the https pixel goes Im not sure
@index
Yeah prosper does cloak traffic but not 100% of the time.
Even if the leaked referrers are only a smal % of total traffic , one referrer leaked is what it takes to show where the traffic is coming from.
And yeah , sometimes it will show the lp url not just the p202 domain.
