How to Send Traffic Source to Affiliate Network for Evaluation of Quality

Hu Guys,

I know this has been discussed before but I don't know where to find the answers. I am looking to send traffic source to the affiliate network. Let's say I have 5 sources:

Source A - Popads
Source B - Adcash
Source C - Zeropark
Source D - Propellerads
Source E - Popcash

How do I send it on my tracking link as tokens so if I want my affiliate network to evaluate the quality of each source, they can easily identify which are the good sources from the bad sources?

Hey, I'm not sure which tracker you are using, but in Binom you can edit the offer such that you can send the traffic source using tokens.

So in the screenshot I attached, in the new offer page you probably already know how to add an offer - put down the name and the url. You have to add the token to the end of the url (see sceenshot) such that when the user clicks on your landing page, and then to the offer, the tracker will replace "trafficsource_name" with "propeller ads" for example.

One more important thing is, is that depending on what tracking platform the affiliate network uses, they will have different types of tracking tokens. For example gotzha uses s1, s2, s3, etc so you can send your traffic source to s1 example. If you're not sure you can ask your affiliate manager.

So put down "?s1={trafficsource_name}" and you should be good. Click image for larger version.

What was said above is the way to go

I personally prefer to send the Traffic Source ID (Traffic Source in the Binom screenshot), which is a number unique to your tracker. Doing so, they can tell you that they have a problem with a specific ID or that the quality is good with another one, but they can not know exactly which source it is. As some networks have media buyers, it will avoid them to know where to run.

Plus it lets them be finer in saying what the problem is. Instead of having to stop all of Propeller, it might just be one particular widget that needs to be stopped.

Additionally to trafficsource ID I also like to send my trackers campaign IDs for better optimization.

Reason is that I mostly run multiple campaigns per trafficsource that can perform very different and also be different in quality.

Let´s say I run campaigns on Propeller push and pops, would be the same trafficsource ID but quality can be very different.

Or let´s say you run Propeller push high activity and low activity, would also be same trafficsource but quality can be different.

That´s why I better like to send campaign IDs instead of trafficsource ID.

Additionally I also create different trafficsources in my tracker for different ad formats (For example Propeller Ads Pops, Propeller Ads Push).

Thanks for the answer guys, I am using Zeydoo. Here is a sample of the end part of their affiliate link

&var={SOURCE_ID}&ymid={CLICK_ID}

Do I put the traffic source under the {SOURCE_ID}?

So for example, I will send this to my affiliate network,
&var={Propellerads}&ymid={CLICK_ID}

Is this the correct way to send to the affiliate network?

@wes888

No,you don't put the real name of the traffic source there.

You rather use the ID of that trafficsource from your tracker.

The correct token then depends on the tracker you use but {Propellerads} is definitely no token from a tracker.

It should be something like {campaign} or {campaignid} or so, the tracker will send the correct ID then instead of the token.

What tracker do you use?

I also like to segment the sources in a more detailed way than just passing a traffic source ID. If the volume is high enough I pass the campaign ID, banner ID and even LP ID in some cases. This way, I can see exactly what part of the funnel is causing the low quality issues. And as twinaxe adviced above, do not pass real names of the sources, resort to IDs. It's always good to retain some level of privacy, the network doesn't have to know everything. Give them the IDs so they can help you optimize the campaign and identify the parts that are hurting the overall quality, but that's about it.

Thanks for the clarifications, I use Voluum.

I think I kind of get it now. Is this the right way to put it?

&var={campaign.id}&ymid={clickid}
&var={campaign.name}&ymid={clickid}
&var={trafficsource.id}&ymid={clickid}
&var={trafficsource.name}&ymid={clickid}

The campaign.name and trafficsource.name will send the actual campaign name and traffic source name to the affiliate network? The campaign.id and trafficsource.id will only send a number identifier to the affiliate network? If I use the ID, how do I correlate this number within Voluum? Where can I find the number identifier of each campaign or traffic source within Voluum?

Yup, just make sure you're using the placeholders that a network can track. So based on the network you might need to use s1 instead of var, for example. Your AM should be able to tell you what to use.

In voluum, you can modify the columns displayed, check this: https://doc.Voluum.com/en/reading_re...N1524218602255

Yes, that´s correct.

The campaign.name and trafficsource.name will send the actual campaign name and traffic source name to the affiliate network? The campaign.id and trafficsource.id will only send a number identifier to the affiliate network?
Exactly, xyz.name = clear name, xyz.id = number identifier.

If I use the ID, how do I correlate this number within Voluum? Where can I find the number identifier of each campaign or traffic source within Voluum?
You don´t need to find it, they are generated by Voluum automatically.

You can see it when you click on "Columns"

Then check "Campaign ID" or "Trafficsource ID"

Now you can find these IDs in your tracker

So based on the network you might need to use s1 instead of var, for example. Your AM should be able to tell you what to use.
He´s using Zeydoo so the parameters are right
