Slow Building a 3rd stream of Income (CPA Being 2nd)

Hello,

So I'm currently running a Push campaign (soon to be two or three) with my brother, but MY LORD is there so much waiting while testing.

I'm trying to be financially independent from logging 40 hours a week in corporate America in a job I'm not passionate about. I just have too much time I could be using.

I need to position myself for an additional income stream, and it will literally cost zero to create a pitch copy to businesses.

So while mastering Push, I'm going to brush up my original skill-in-progress: copywriting.

My intention is to act as consultant + creator of lead gen / sales funnels. I will specialize in VSLs primarily, and WSLs secondarily.

I briefly tried it while I was less mature and I just didn't have the patience. Now I'm kicking late-2018 24-year-old me for not staying consistent....

I've gathered plenty of resources (free and paid) so now it's time to use them.

I plan on updating this maybe once a week. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.

Here's my roadmap modelled after Alex Cattoni's Copy Posse Launch Pad:

Week 1: Market research to select a niche. Identify a brand(s) to write actual an actual funnel(s) for (ADS + LP + Emails)
Weeks 2 - 4: Watch 1 - 2 hours of Lurn copywriting breakdowns everyday
Week 5:
Focus on how to craft High-Converting Offers
Week 6: Craft my first example landing page
Week 7: Craft my first example FB ads
Week 8: Craft First example email campaign
Week 9: Package the example funnel into a portfolio and get feedback until decent

Resources:

Plenty of reading lists. Currently reading Copywriting Secrets by Jim Edwards
Paid copywriting resources from LURN
Russel Brunson's Secrets Trilogy and some of his other stuff
Alex Cattoni + many others' free resources
Membership in The Cult of Copy and their colliseum

Ammended Plan:

I haven't settled on a niche yet due to two weeks of OBSESSING over my first Push campaign. I had to restart the campaign and the process is far less stressful this 2nd time around.

In the mean time, I'm actually going to experiment with a particular business opportunity. Paid for by the USA stimmy

I'm not susceptable at all to bus. op. copywriting hyperboly. This one makes sense and was too enticing. Even if I can't make it work, I've still got the copywriting game plan in place.

March 12 - 31: Complete the coursework

April 1 - 30: Land first local client

Great stuff man! Love the solid plan!

Just to clarify... are steps 6-8 talking about building an actual lead-gen funnel as an EXAMPLE of your copywriting? Or as an example AND one you'll run traffic to? Or as a funnel for your own copywriting business?

And then also just out of curiosity, what kind of copywriting are you hoping to focus on? Like advertorial type stuff? Or vsl scripts? Everything?

I really like Jim Edwards and Russell Brunson's stuff.

I also really like Matt O'Connor: https://www.conversiongods.com/blog/

And then are you thinking about using Upwork to sell your copywriting skills at all? I've been hiring stuff out on Upwork like crazy the last few months and it definitely seems to be working for some of these freelancers. I haven't hired anyone to write copy, just blog posts, but that might be a good way to quickly replace your income.

Anyway look forward to seeing your progress man big props to you for going after it like this!

+1 with this. Gaining specialized knowledge in a vertical or type of copy will definitely help you stand out and get referrals.

@jack_l Ah yes, I should have clarified. This will just be an example funnel. I'll be specializing in VSLs and WSLs--moreso VSLs since video is not slowing down anytime soon and is far less saturated.

I will indeed be searching for work on both Upwork and the Cult of Copy Job Board.

I'm going to check out Matt O'Connor

@jeremie I'm going to look at Gary Halbert's challenge--thanks for that tip.

Added my amended plan into the original post. The USA signed the stimulus bill into Law and it just paid for me to try out a business op

Nice! How's the coursework coming along?

@vortex Thank you for asking. I got through about 1/4th of the content before realizing that my course completion timeline was too aggressive.

My department is "moving in a different direction" and I watched someone on my team get locked out of their work devices in real time. Being the youngest team member who is the only one who didn't get recruited from Apple, I got extremely worried.

I've never experienced that level of job uncertainty before, and now I'm over it.

I've consumed enough entrepreneur content to know that uncertainty is a part of this game

So instead of my usual mid-day digital marketing work, I'll shift it to early morning and evening.

I'm aiming to get through this coursework by April 14th at the latest.
