I don't have experience promoting this sort of product. But when you were applying to LifeStraw's aff program, did you provide a website?
It shouldn't be too hard to put a blog together with a few relevant articles written by an article writing service or a writer on Fiverr.
Also: The LifeStraw aff program offers 5% commission by default. Amazon I think offers 4% for most categories. I haven't compared sales prices, but promoting through amazon may be an alternative if the commissions aren't too different:

@vortex I actually didn't provide a website. That blog tip is good to know! Eventually I want to try my hand at e-comm affiliate marketing.
I'm actually glad I got rejected, because I need to focus on running sweeps. No need to do two verticals badly lol
