Pop campaign fun (or not so fun)

Hi All,

I've been a member of STM for a while now (on and off). Initially tried to do FB but given the nonstop account bans, I decided against it. So I switched over to Pops and was following Amy's 40-day tutorial.

Intro:

Affiliate network: Mobidea, MaxBounty, CB
Traffic Source: Propeller Ads
Tracking: Bemob ($49/mo)
Spy tool: Anstrex ($79/mo)
Forum: STM ($99/mo)
Additional Budget for traffic/Misc: $500-$700/mo

I ran a few pop campaigns, but none of them were particularly fruitful (-80%+ ROI). Right now I have 2 live campaigns (both losing $), and I'd love to get help on 1 of them.

Campaign 1:
Offer: Win iPhone 11 - 2Click (South Africa)
This offer is currently a top offer on Mobidea (per their stats)

Here's what stats look like on Propeller ads:

Targeting: South Africa, Android, and excluded Zone Placement (per 40-day tutorial, 0.5-2x payout rule)
Here's a screenshot of Bemob for last 3 days (note the costs/payouts don't align between traffic source and tracker)

I've so far tested 5 landers (now down to 3), cut ~40 underperforming placements, and excluded 5 different Android versions (placements/OS versions were today). I'm still waiting for what the campaign will look like tomorrow morning after today's optimization, but I'm not too hopeful that it'll be anything close to profitable.

I know it's a performant offer, but I can't figure out what to optimize further. Should I test out a different traffic source? Test more landers? What other variables can I play with without limiting traffic significantly? Any help would be really appreciated. Happy to share other stats as well if that's helpful.

Goal is to get to a consistent $100/day and then $XX,XXX/day one day (like every newbie). @twinaxe @vortex
@stickupkid - thank you for directing me to STM for help on this!

Thanks All!
P.

P.S. Since it doesn't take a lot of time to launch a campaign, what can I be doing with my free time with regard to AM? Want to eventually run large-scale native campaigns. Have wayyyy too much free time right now.

It can be very seducing to make a "shiny offer" work. But... what works for others not necessarily works for you, too.

Yes, that's a hard truth. Good thing is that it has little to do with your skills or intelligence. Maybe it helps to regard the offer as a fish tank that is already harvested by too many fishermen.

So what to do?

1. Test more offers --> so you develop a feeling which offer has potential and which not (some plants just grow faster than others)
2. Choose lower payout offers --> usually they convert better / you need less budget to see if they work --> you can test more
3. Choose less competitive geos --> ZA is a monster. Traffic is quite expensive there.
4. Read Amy's 40 day tutorial again and have a good laugh when you see which of the beginner's mistake you made (we all made them)
5. Set budgets and strive for learning rather than making big $$$$ --> greed can be motivator but also your biggest enemy
6. Give up offers that don't meet your goals which you wrote down before you started them
7. Try other networks (maybe Haka --> look at twinaxe case study) or give multi geo offers from Mobidea a chance --> you can test many different geos
8. With 700 USD budget you could test 50-70 low payout offers --> repetition is key when learning something.

@psarkar you should also try other ad-formats, Push can work with this one. this is a good offer can do better than this.

@larsometer Thank you for your detailed reply. And agreed, I'm not sure how much "juice" there is left in this offer - I had 0 conversions last night.
I think testing out other offers is likely the move right now. In addition, I'll try to run this offer with push traffic (as I have had conversions in the past).

I'll also test out other geos, ZA is extremely expensive (as you mentioned); will try other networks as well.

@ezmobcom - I'll switch to push traffic and see if I get any better luck.
