Hey Guys,
Having read a bunch of good stuff here on SiteScout, definitely looks like the ideal place to start w/ media buying.
I'm a little confused with regards to initial testing strategy.
I read some recommendations on testing sites from Dr. SiteScout and Angry Russian.
They say:
This is CPM buys so approach them slightly different. The way I did it is I calculate my Earning Per Visitor if using lander or EPC if DL. Then I test my top creatives (3 to 5) usually just 300x250 to minimize variables. I bid usually $5.00 - $10.00 CPM to ensure I win all the impressions. Sitescout only charges you 1 cent higher then the highest bidder. So you don't lose your shirt just watch your shit in 202 and Sitescout is pretty real time for the most part. Also set your dialy budget low. With this tactic it should only cost you $50 to $100 to get an instant read if a placement has potential or not.
Of course I'm always happy to "pay for my data", but it sounds like you can easily blow through a couple hundred dollars just testing a few sites.
I do mostly social (POF, FB). Generally speaking, I'll have a good feel of an ad's performance at about 4,000-5,000 impressions
If I'm testing say... 4 creatives on a given site, I'll need about 16k impressions to make a judgement call? So if I'm doing a dating offer that pays about $5, assuming CPM's are about .80c, I should be able to get all the data I need using roughly. So I can get all the data I need for about $15/site (about 2x-3x payout which is what I'm normally used to). Or perhaps do you guys find it better to send say 30 clicks to a site and see how it does?
Is that logic good? Thoughts/comments?
Just looking to test economically
Thanks for the help!
Ya that can work with dating....when I am testing "girls" I keep imps real low and kill stuff mega fast....just because its easy to tell if the ads gonna get ctr or not....as 9/10 its the image that gets you the click....so then after that I work on the copy with that girl etc....
just stick to a few sites....is my only advice
Polar, what do you consider a good CTR on SS, and at what CTR do you figure that an ad isn't worth running and kill it?
ya its crazy how some of the lower ctr banners will back into better eCPA on sitescout, the main thing in my opinion is to find a site that converts on these dating ads and offers and has some decent volume. then you want to test as many banners as possible and just optimize by what your backing into. some of these sites just dont convert. i can give you a hint on a site to try but i dont want to out it and step on some peoples toes. hit me up on AIM at shoent, its a site i know converts but its very hard to get creatives approved on .
