Direct linking in Google Display Ads

Hi!

I know that you can add direct affiliate link in case of Gmail campaigns.

I am curious since banners are more or less like the creatives in Gmail campaigns, does it mean we can add a direct affiliate link to the Google Display ads as well?

Are you sure direct linking will get you more conversions? I'm not sure about that! Saying from personal experience...

No, I intend to test it and of course, the prelander version will probably win hands down.

But I am curious, do I have the direct linking option?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe google ads don't allow the promotion of redirect links.

I used to do that - direct-linked from adwords to clickbank without using landers - and starting making 5 figures a month without knowing what the heck I was even doing. I was doing that until sometime in 2008 or 2009 (?) when adwords stopped approving my campaigns unless I added a lander. I don't imagine they would reverse their rules more than 10 years later...

Google Ads does not allow redirect link - it will be flagged as 'circumvention' - a lander is a must

If you use an affiliate link, you will likely violate the "Destination requirements" part of the policy
See: https://support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/6368661?hl=en&ref_topic=1626336

Redirects from the final URL that take the user to a different domain. Example: The final URL http://example.com redirects to http://example2.com
On top of that, by promoting a link which is not yours, you could end up violating several others "Destination requirements".

"Destination experience" if the offer owner blocks the back button
Destinations or content that are unnecessarily difficult or frustrating to navigate. Examples: Websites with pop-ups or interstitials that interfere with the user's ability to see the content requested; sites that disable or interfere with the browser's back button;
"Destination not crawlable" if the offer owner restricts the domain crawl
Examples: Using exclusion files (such as "robots.txt") to restrict access to an entire site or to the majority of a site; restricting crawl capacity disproportionately to the number of ads being submitted

If you manage to go direct to the offer link by discussing with the offer owner, and another affiliate also does that, Google could see this as 2 accounts promoting the same content, which is also a policy violation

See "Unfair advantage" section here: https://support.google.com/adspolicy...r/6020954?rd=1
Examples (non-exhaustive): Affiliates that advertise on Google Ads against the applicable affiliate program rules; promoting the same or similar content from multiple accounts on the same or similar queries, trying to show more than one ad at a time for your business, app, or site"

I would personally not send any traffic to a domain I don't have full control on.

Thanks for the help everyone, it's probably a lot easier and safe to use a lander in all of Google Ads campaigns instead.

Even though Gmail campaigns do allow it, I guess it's still better to use a lander.
