How come some senior members and experts suddenly have no badge to their names? (32)

How come I see the levels attached to many experts and senior members suddenly vanishing? For sure, the level/label indicates the level and duration of participation, not expertise. Yet, I'm curious...

I was wondering about something similar few weeks ago - if is it possible to hide that badge in settings.

Some guys here have few hundred posts and 1k+ thanks and no badge.

I clicked through my account settings and found no such an option available - what kind of magic is happening here

This is caused by the plugin we're using for this, let's just say it doesn't work 100% correctly at all times. Let me see if we can fix it somehow

Aha, thank God! I thought after a certain level members are voluntarily allowed to remove their badges.

Also, when someone leaves the forum, I noticed that the level badge is removed.

Nope, that would defy the whole idea of badges

I'm fixing it manually right now - it's really weird but periodically some of the higher-level members would just magically lose their badge for some reason.

It may be because the plugin isn't playing well with the main vbulletin system or with other plugins, or maybe some script we're running periodically has been causing the badges to reset. Since the badges is just something fun and doesn't affect the overall operation of the forum, it's not the highest priority to fix. But we'll continue to try to track down the cause.

In the meantime - thanks so much for the reminder!

Haha - as I've pointed out in the intro post for the gamification system, the badges are not meant to be an accurate representation of a member's level of experience in affiliate marketing.

Rather, it's calculated based on stuff like number of posts, thanks, length of membership, and a number of other factors.

And you're too humble - you have 115 posts to your name that have been thanked 267 times, which means members are finding your posts valuable. We appreciate your contributions!

Thanks for noticing! Those members are long gone - I don't think the badges plugin goes backwards when assigning badges. I think only members that have posted since the plugin was implemented, would get a badge.

Ah, I see it's NOT the plugin this time! But again some members are still there even if they joined long time back, so I suspected...
