Hi!
Are media buyers who work for agencies and in house for brands generally allowed to run their own
affiliate offers on the side?
Also when hiring media buyers to run your own affiliate offers, do they generally expect to have the ability to
run their own stuff as well?
I'm still new to the affiliate/performance industry and am trying to get a gist for how stuff like this goes.
I'd say this is dependent on a particular deal and agency/company.
I've seen contracts where mediabuyers had to sign pretty strict non disclosure agreements, which basically made it impossible for them to run any campaigns as it would be in conflict with the agreement. On the other hand, I've known people who had pretty relaxed rules and the agencies didn't really care what they were doing on the side, as long as their results were in par with what they required from them. It's also not uncommon for mediabuyers to work on contracts for multiple entities at the same time.
I agree with matuloo, I've seen and been an assignee of several NDAs that required to promote only 1 company product, and prohibited even to discuss any job opportunities for the future with other companies. Though, those who hire freelancers can not ask for any agreement to be signed and the only demand is the work to be done. Anyway, sometimes employers do not ask for documents because they want to avoid some legal steps, especially when they hire for a short period of time.
Thank you for the insight, much appreciated!
