If i had a new years resolution it was to dive in balls first into mobile and i usually commit to something when it's important so thats what i did. Right after ASW i started researching like bauss. Made enough sticky notes to go crazy with. Spoke with bbrock and we decided it would be appropriate to dive into this together.
This will be a journal that we'll both keep updated documenting everything we do in mobile. It's unlikely i'll give up until i make it work so you guys should see a ton of info here!
Phase1
We've researched and signedup with a LOT of traffic sources and a couple new affiliate networks, but we're starting with the most popular ones first.
Phase2
We've launched campaigns on Jumptap so far in the coreg, mobile and dating niches. We'll start sharing #numbers on Monday. For now it's a lot of narrowing down handsets, and carriers.
US is the only country we're targeting at the moment, but we're jumping into AU/CA Monday. We're testing everything, and not doing anything conventional! Mobile is new and any crazy shit can work, so hopefully we can share some of our wacky concepts here.
My fav thing so far in this space is that it feels like the wild wild west!!
1. Rules are pretty slack for the most part
2. There such a mix of countries, traffic sources, appvswap targeting, and range of offers! Just seems like a lot of potential
Very interested to see how this goes! Will def be following.
Whats your testing budget?
@google
unlimited.
Good luck with your journal! Looking forward to your first success.
When you say coreg - is it possible to make mobile optimized lander and then send user to regular coreg path (gt)?
@tnakov
Yes, you can make a mobile formatted landing page and send to:
a) web based coreg or
b) mobile formatted coreg
usually same path, but 1 is mobile formatted
Can't wait to see how this goes, gonna be following this thread religiously as I re-enter the mobile space.

I've just started with mobile pay per call, I don't have an unlimited google budget, but it is working.
The pay per call premise is simple, people have a phone in their hand, search pops up a number to satisfy the search, they dial your unique promo phone # they talk to a call center you get paid...rinse and repeat.
At ASW freespee did a session on Mobile CPA, basically it's the wild west with a huge potential, 5+ billion mobile phones, 1 million smartphones are activated every day, 20-60% conversion rate.
Looking forward to your experiences ... Thanks Stackman!
UPDATE 1
Usually i'm pretty meticulous with campaigns, but Besmir and I have just been throwing shit at the wall and seeing what has potential right now, mainly because we have so many ideas/angles we want to try.
Speed Notes
- I've realized more traffic sources than i thought have mobile traffic available to buy
- Certain websites sell their mobile traffic in bulk
- LOTS of international potential in mobile
- PPV and Mobile have some similarities
- Banners seem to be pretty important so far
- More people use landing pages then i originally thought
- Carriers in the US make a huge difference for your niche/conversions
- Do your traffic source research, there's LOTS of mobile traffic hidden in the interwebs
- @splitter8 Testing pay-per-call is absolutely on our "to test" list (maybe you should start a follow along so i can see how it goes for you)
Numbers
- Spent about $600 testing so far
- Made 10% ROI on 1 campaign, has promise but need to work on volume
- So far I'm liking wallpaper, dating and promo niches but i'm testing as many unique angles as i can because i want a campaign that isn't easy for someone to find/copy
where can you spy on mobile campaigns? / how to do this?
I don't, not sure if theres really anything other than manual searching ATM. I've just been looking around a lot, talking a lot, and doing some black ops research
ninja stuff guys i'll def be following!
Subscribed. I've jumped into mobile too, so will look forward to seeing your progress.
I wish you guys good ROI
UPDATE
- Landing pages are continuously working better for me for every test I've ran
- Just like web based affiliate marketing, there's a lot of opportunity in smaller traffic sources! Jumptap isn't the only mobile source out there, but with that said these smaller sources don't have NEARLY anywhere the volume jumptap has.
- So far carriers have played a bigger impact on conversions then handsets
- Alex 'the angry russian' owner of MobAff knows his shit! He was one of the first people i know testing mobile and he now runs a successful mobile network. He 1 on 1 helps his affs and he's been helping Besmir and I. Hit him up
I've been running so testing mobile campaigns, but 2 are showing the most promise at the moment. I'll be sharing one in the mobile as a follow along because there's a lot of split testing needing over the next week.
Are you using any type of tracking?
Right now we are just using subids to keep things simple.
Neither P202 or CPVLab are viable options since they use cookies.
When we hit it big something custom will need to be coded.
Would you recommend testing on JT and then porting campaigns that show hope to other mobile sources?
Yes sure , JT can pass tracking parameters so basically you can go RON first and optimize from there.
After you have your targeting right you can port to other sources.
Any update guys? Profit/Loss so far?
