Deleting Extra Conversion (9)

Deleting Extra Conversion

I launched this new campaign and it turns out my postback wasn't firing correctly. No problem, I can just upload the conversions while my AM gets this sorted. I upload a conversion and didn't wait long enough for it to show in my tracker and began thinking that I hadn't uploaded it correctly... so I uploaded it again. To my dismay, when I refreshed I had uploaded the conversion twice! No problem, I'll just request it to be removed from my tracker from technical support.

Long story short, they are telling me it is impossible to remove any data whatsoever. I find this incredibly hard to believe that it is impossible. This is a word I'm not a huge fan of. I've dealt with things that seemed far more "impossible" than removing a number from a table of data.

Anyways, enough venting. Does anyone have a creative solution so my data reads correctly again?

This is a cloud-tracking solution, not a self-hosted tracking solution, correct?

If so, and if they tell you that there's no way to remove data, then I don't think you have any other choice. (I agree with you that it can be done - it's more like they don't want to go there, because saying yes to such requests will open up a big can of worms - if word gets out and more people start requesting for data to be changed it would mean a lot more work for them. It's understandable.)

However, if you're using a self-hosted tracker, and you know where the data is stored (like in a database file for example), then you can potentially figure out how to do it.

Wild-crap-shoot-in-the-dark idea: What if you trigger the postback again with the same click ID or hit ID or whatever it is your tracker calls it, and the same payout but with a negative sign in front of the payout amount? DISCLAIMER: I've never attempted this myself - doing so can mess up your data even further.

I'd say to just keep running the campaign - after collecting a few more conversions, the one wrong conversion will cease to skew the data in a significant way.

Yes, it is a cloud-tracking solution and you're totally right.

I like the creative idea and I was thinking about doing that with the "self-upload" conversion and putting the negative sign but I didn't want to do exactly what you said and mess up the data further lol. I know ultimately it's not a big deal, just not a fan of when someone tells me something is "impossible".

I think the solution is to just let it be.

The question is... does it even make sense to mess with this because of 1 conversion? I'd just move on

Unless you really want to get to the bottom of the issue and you're too stubborn to give up... I can understand that too

Yeah. One conversion not a lot to fuss about. If you want the costs to line up, just update the cost of the campaign to the cost of 1 CPA.

I thought about that too, but I figured ultimately my CPV and CPC data is more important haha

Well, the sooner you learn how to deal with minor discrepancies like this, the better. Because honestly, there will always be some. Clicks will get over or under-reported, a conversion won't be reported from time to time too or an extra one will appear from whatever reason... that's how it is, tracking rarely works 100% accurately.

It's a waste of time to even try to correct every small difference that appears in the stats. The important thing is to be aware of these minor differences and take them into account when making decisions... but honestly, the 1 extra conversion you have now doesn't really matter, it's not like it could have a dramatic effect on your next steps anyways.
