Hi STM Members
It September 6th already, congratulations to all of us, as we've survived 2 thirds of 2020
But that's a bit off topic...
So, I've reread STM report about affiliate trends in 2020 and I see that a lot of authors didn't experience any change in push notifications as in an ad format yet. At least not the same way everybody expected it to be. So, is it another "rumour" like the one about pop format which is "dying" for the past several years?
I'd really appreciate your thoughts and notes
Yup, definitely looks like the damage was not that big as was expected. However, we might still need a few more months to really see how the initial collection process of new subscribers will work in the long term. Many huge lists have been collected prior to the changes, so these are still being used and it's quite likely that building new ones is more complicated now.
The CTRs also went down quite a bit, I'm sure that one part of the problem is that users got used to the notifications and do not click them as much as before, but maybe the browser updates have something to do with it too.
I think users are getting use to them and better creatives are def the challenge now. I assume these users are getting hit hard, as there are networks that serve you X% of impressions knowing they will fill clicks over the next 6 hours or so. I do not think it is browser issues yet, I agree that it will be another set of months to see if it has effected traffic much.
@matuloo @ianternet thanks for your thoughts!
have you ever experienced signing up for the pushes not only to check your ad campaigns, but as if you're a regular user?
I'm Iphone user so I'm not even invited to sign up. Though, in Mac I'm subscribed for a few notification services just to see their creatives and I still receive them and never noticed any change. So if I ever wish to follow the add I'd still easily follow the link. So now changes for me yet
Now it is very difficult to find new good sites for placing push notifications and users do not like this type of advertising, as it is quite annoying. There is nothing to change or add to this format. Therefore, it still seems to exist, but you need to be very creative and look for profitable offers in order to get at least a minimum profit
Now many push networks have started to launch in-page push
Has someone already tested it?
I can sum up that pushes are "overheated" now, so the more we use that ad format the worse it comes, as users are annoyed and they unsubscribe from notifications or clean their browsers. Perhaps it's worth waiting so that the hype cools down a bit and both sides (webmasters and customers) are not so annoyed and tired of all this "subscribe to get more info" thing ...
