cloaking
Hi,
I'm planning on promoting VPN offers using pop, the almost all LPs I saw on adplexity were similar in terms of the angle/messaging.
Propeller ad rejected my campaign so I'm thinking about using cloaking.
TrafficArmour said it's against their policy to use their service to promote campaigns that are against the policies of networks but I saw here in the forum that people use it to cloak. Do people just use them for blackhat cloaking without telling them anyways?
just curious how the game goes here?
thanks!

Officially many cloakers describe themselves as some kind of anti fraud service.
This is correct as you can use them in that way but in most cases cloakers are used for other stuff.

Cloaking is no magic pill to make all campaigns instantly successful.
When you start cloaking you even put one more variable in the game and risk to lose your trafficsource accounts or CPA network revenue/account when you get caught cloaking.
So before you think about cloaking you should be sure to understand how it works, what it does and most important if you really need it in your situation.
In the end there are so many good things you can run completely without cloaking.

It also depends on the vertical you run.
VPN and AV for example usually need to be promoted more aggressive to perform good.
But other verticals like Sweeps, adult/dating, Casino and so on can work perfectly fine without cloaking.
Of course there are also people running very aggressive prelanders and there also people who cloak but there´s much stuff that can be run without any cloaking.
Additionally it also depends on the trafficsource you use, some sources are stricter with what they allow, some are less strict.
For example running sweeps with
FB like landers or
Google like landers can work very good and is no problem on most trafficsources.
One thing you should consider as well is that you not only need to hide from the trafficsources when you want to cloak.
In many cases you also need to hide from GSB, AV companies or other platforms to avoid that your domain gets flagged.
And on top you often also have to hide your traces from the CPA networks or advertisers.
Otherwise you risk to lose your commission or in worst case get kicked from the platform.
So you see, when you really want to run blackhat stuff or very aggressive angles/prelanders you have to consider a bit more than just cloaking to get campaigns approved at the trafficsource.

Well, the good ol´ BlackHatWorld...
I still have a VIP account at BHW with more than 800 posts but I didn´t visit the forum for maybe 8 or 9 years because quality isn´t the best there anymore.
Probably 90% of the forum is about the marketplace and selling SEO packages and such stuff.
There are by far not that many people on BHW who have real knowledge about paid traffic and many who make claims about it probably couldn´t back it or just talk big for higher
reputation or to sell something
About the statement that compliant ads don't perform well as cloaked ones, it really depends what you run and where you run it.
When you want to run traffic on FB then you would need cloak many more things than running pops, push or native.
It´s just the nature of the traffic type.
Many things that are not allowed on FB can be run without any issues on push/pops/native.
And yes, it´s true that aggressive or blackhat stuff can perform better than compliant ads or landers.
But as I said above
Cloaking is no magic pill to make all campaigns instantly successful.
When you can´t get campaigns running without cloaking you probably also wouldn´t succeed with cloaking.
I know it sounds a bit hard so I try to explain it a bit better.
When you only have campaigns that are not converting then it´s not because you don´t cloak, it´s because the campaigns are not working.
When you then start cloaking and running aggressive on a bad campaign it´s still a bad campaign.
The first thing you need to do is to find a good campaign.
When you see that it´s converting already when you run it whitehat you can consider to start cloaking to run it more aggressive to increase the ROI/profit.
But when the base material isn´t good enough then cloaking also won´t help you much.
