Revcontent: Ads not showing on widget no matter the bid

I can't seem to get any traffic from a widget. This is a site I am getting lots of traffic from another widget (lets call it widgetA), but for some reason I cannot get any traffic from the other widget (widgetB).

I checked the site and I know where widgetB is on the site. I see other ads being shown by Revcontent, so widgetB is working fine.

So today, I decided to start a fresh campaign. Pushed my bid up to $3. I still couldn't see my ad on that widget, while other ads are being shown.

Check the impressions, and saw only 429 impressions. After an hour, still at 429 impressions. It stopped serving my ad on widgetB.

Meanwhile the other widgetA, has already beed served 14k impressions. Both widgetA and widgetB are on the same site.

Can somebody tell me what's going on?

Thanks

Did you ask your account rep about this?

There are several options that come to my mind ...

- the second widget is sold on a flat deal to someone and only a small amount of impressions are left for bidding
- the second widget has some setting that prevents specific offer types to be displayed there and you happen to promote such offer. Sounds weird though, since the other widget on the same site is showing your ads... maybe wrong settings on behalf of the publisher.
- there might be some bug in the system/platform or the widget is not setup properly on behalf of the pub

But the best way would be to ask your rep at revcontent, they should be able to tell you whats going on.

I have seen the same exact thing happen. @matuloo summed it up perfectly, I would presume it's one of those three things.

Also sometimes I noticed it could take a few days for a widget to 'reflect' my bid... basically I'd do the exact same thing you're doing, bidding super high on a site's B or C widget when I was already getting lots of spend through their A widget... but the B or C widget just would not spend for me... but then a few days later all of a sudden the floodgates would open and I'd get tons of traffic from it...

So yeah, who knows the intricacies of all these networks' algorithms... all kinds of goofy stuff that happens!

Thanks for both of your feedback @jack_l @matuloo

I thought the ad might have had too many impressions at first, so it had some kind of poor CTR history and not being shown.

So I used a new ad. This got me shown on that widget, but only got 1.2k impressions before it stopped. I didn't get any clicks.

I was thinking it might be because I didn't get any clicks after 1.2k impressions, hence it stopped trying.

There are 6 spots on that widget, I don't understand how I cannot get on there.

It could be possible that widget has been bought out by multiple people on a flat deal.

I don't have a rep on Revcontent, eventhough I have a rep on Taboola. Lol! ... I spend more on Revcontent at the moment.

How do I get in contact with a rep on Revcontent?

I reached out to Revcontent support, and this is what they told me

"Our system takes the entirety of your strategy into consideration. As such having such an extra discrepancy between your native and widget CPC bids will cause the volume to be disjointed and throttled down which is why I was recommending that you change your bid on the topic level to be more competitive"

I had my campaign bid at 0.001 and widgets I wanted at over 0.90

I explained to them that I already got 100k impressions doing this on another widget on the same site.

Their response:
"This issue is occurring because you are trying to use the system in a manner it is not designed to be used in, which is going to lead to unexpected behavior. Again, I would highly recommend that you adjust your bid on the Native level as it will help you get the desired volume you are looking for. "

So..... I setup another campaign. Using campaign bid at 0.45 and widgets I wanted to over 0.90. The result?... Same thing!

Lol interesting...

I guess it's a good object lesson in just how random all this stuff can actually function... even to the extent it does so in a manner different than the engineers actually want it to...

Yeh, it is what it is. I'm gonna just move on.

Was planning to scale by getting more traffic on that site, but need to think of something else.

That explanation they gave you actually makes me believe they have sort of a "bug" in the system, some coder developed something that doesn't "think" the same way as a mediabuyer does... so they expect you to behave in some way and when you don't, the system produces "unexpected" results
