Taboola Managed
Anyone have experience running taboola managed campaigns for affiliate offers?
Been in talks with account manager at taboola and he keeps pushing their managed solution.
I don't like losing some of the control but feel like it could be nice since I'm sure they have plenty of experience knowing what works and what doesn't, and have heard stuff like reps will just look at other peoples campaigns to see what placements would be converting for same/similar offer.
Do you guys think its worth doing or just stick to self serve?

Yes, i've been running taboola for some years now, but only self-serve. I would say having a good collaboration with the rep for approvals/rejections, pushing back to content/compliance/traffic sources suggestions/devices/ for you does matter a lot. However, in terms of rep managed campaign i used to get one on content.ad, but only with proven offers/creatives previously tested and scaled on taboola/outbrain. So make sure you get a bunch of information on that niche, offer first. And of course, depending on your native level so far. What i can tell you for sure, there's no set and forget when it comes to taboola or similar traffic sources(you need to put in the hours), so really up to you.

Just to confirm... are you talking about their "SmartBid" setting or actual managed campaigns where someone on their team runs the campaign for you?
If it's the second one that's interesting... I had never heard of Taboola offering that...
I would definitely say it's worth trying as a split-test to see how it does, however in my experience none of the reps at these traffic sources can buy media anywhere near as well as most of the people on this forum.
That doesn't mean they're bad reps - honestly my rep at Taboola is great specifically because she does NOT give us advice on how to run campaigns (which can be hugely annoying)... but the times we have had reps that try to give advice on running campaigns it's clear they have no idea what they're doing, and are just repeating the stuff that's written in their training manuals...
If a person can successfully run traffic on Taboola or Outbrain they aren't going to be working for one of the companies for 40k a year, they're going to be quitting and becoming an affiliate (as some do).
With that said, everything is worth split-testing!
If you have any more info on the situation would love to hear more! Very interesting!
