I have unused funds in my Taboola account - How can I get it back? (9)

I have unused funds in my Taboola account - How can I get it back?

I deposited money into Taboola about a year or two ago, and spent 70-80% of the funds, before stopping. I am now trying to get them to return the balance I have on account, which they are making it exceedingly difficult to do. Not only have they cancelled all account management functions (account inactive for 6 months), but refusing to payout UNLESS I confirm to them exactly where I paid the original deposit from and how much it was for.

I've never heard of anyone asking for that before - in an authenticated account I am using.

Clearly, this is Taboola using dirty tactics to try and keep any unused balances in their accounts.

Any similar stories?

Lots of companies do that. Adcash demands a 25% commission to refund unused credits.

that's appalling isn't it....?

I seriously doubt a company of their size needs to use dirty tactics to keep a few $100s... they are definitely making less because of the covid situation, but still, it doesn't make much sense.

They likely have some policy to follow in cases like these and the employees are just doing that. It's annoying for sure, but as dragohsd mentioned, many other networks have similar policies in place when it comes to refunding unused funds.

I would save myself the trouble of wasting hours if not days following up on such issues, by simply sending them a copy of the original payment if that is what they need to move forward.

Sometimes simply being authenticated to your account and interacting with it, doesn't satisfy a company's refunding policy. So, if the source of the payment and showing proof to them about that is something you need to go through, then just follow along with them and prove it.

It's worth mentioning that nowadays many Taboola accounts are being sold and resold by various individuals for blackhat activity proposes, so maybe this could be one of the reasons they are requesting such details.

it's so long ago that I can't find any of the original payment details - and the company has changed banks / cards since then anyway.

This could very well be the reason, thanks for pointing that out!

Hey,

Here are Taboola T&C
https://policies.taboola.com/terms-a...united-states/

4. Campaign Management: [...] Taboola reserves the right to restrict Advertiser’s ability to edit Campaign Details in Taboola Backstage for any reason or no reason.

12. Termination/Suspension: [...] Taboola may terminate or suspend Advertiser’s access to or use of the Service or terminate this Agreement at any time if: (a) in the sole discretion of Taboola, such action is necessary to prevent errors or harm to any system or network, or to limit Taboola’s or its affiliates’ liability;[...]
They most probably blocked your access because you were inactive after X months. This is to avoid funds being spent if your account get hacked. Nothing illegal there.

16. Force Majeure: Neither Advertiser nor Taboola will be liable for delay or default in the performance of its respective obligations under this Agreement if such delay or default is caused by conditions beyond its reasonable control, including, but not limited to, fire, flood, accident, earthquakes, telecommunications line failures, electrical outages, network failures, acts of God, or labor disputes.
I guess Covid-19 classify as Force Majeure. Nothing illegal there.

That is a 2nd-layer security policy in force with lots of companies dealing with payments. Would you prefer to have your accounts emptied if someone hacks your email, reset your passwords and request refunds or wires by email?

It can be a real threat. To give you an idea, on anstrex, I have found guys doing Push Traffic to a fake site, almost identical to the website of one of the largest Chilean banks, just to collect credentials. I reported the first fake website begining of May 2020. Since then, they opened 5-6 new one. On June 23rd, they open another website...

Think 2 sec who is front ot you: a back office clerck following a refund policy: she/he is not going to move. It takes 5 min to look at Taboola billing section, find the date of the wire, and download it from your bank account.

I changed the title a bit because there's nothing illegal about it.
