Protecting yourself legally with dropshipping

Hey Guys,

Any advice on how to protect yourself legally with dropshipping. Lets say you have a single product website and someone purchasing your product accidentally kills themselves, what protection do you need in place to protect your self legally?

I would imagine most people don't have protections in place. So interested in hearing about this.

Cheers!

your product accidentally kills themselves
What are you selling???

I guess this is what the disclaimers are for, plus the products should carry safety instructions, especially in case you're selling something for kids or otherwise potentially harmful.

I don't do ecom so can't really help you, so just wanted to bump this thread to get more eyeballs to it, maybe someone has experience with this.

You can protect yourself with disclaimers and plenty of clear instructions, warnings etc

Buy product liability insurance.

Be careful what markets you sell into - everybody knows USA is highest risk for getting sued.

And if you sell from an offshore company you make it a lot harder for people to sue you. The main risk is not so much individuals suing you as lawyers stirring up trouble and trying to encourage people to sue on a no-win no-fee basis. That doesn’t happen if you are offshore as it makes it uneconomical for contingency-fee lawyers.

I had a question on this about promoting affiliate products a few days back. But I am into dropshipping too and worreid about selling supplements in the U.S. The supplier is local, so there's less worries. But I have been seriously warned against shipping health products from China even if my site will be offshore based in India.
Would like to hear more on this too...

I would say selling Chinese supplements would be highly risky. At least if they are US made you should have lab certifications etc.

Where your site is based is not so relevant as where the company is based. Is that India too?

Slightly sidetracking but how would you get merchant processing for supplement products for an Indian site? Sounds difficult.
