Toys and Dropshipping

Hello,

Is toys a good category to dropship from China?

I have the domain epictoys dot com and I thought to develop it into a dropshipping store, and if it worked well it might be developed into a fell toys brand..

Appreciate your thoughts....

Thanks
Amro

I had bought adult credits from adnium and when I asked them a similar question they said that it's a good niche to work on and the few who have stores on their portal are killing it. But again, one cannot rely on them because they would always want their traffic to be sold. On top of that, it's risky at the current times because the sellers in China would want their products to be sold and would make false claims on delivery. I think it would be safe to wait for a few months and be certain about delivery and other risks before trying anything from China (or maybe elsewhere).
Also, Facebook does not allow traffic to such stores, you need to be careful so you don't risk your account.
I tried some key phrases for toy stores on keyword tools and it seems to show good search volume and buyer intent with low competition. You can find buyer intent if there is good search volume for key phrases like "best (product name) for y (purpose, year, etc.)" " product name +review" "top ten reviews for + product name", etc. You may check this for the items you are selling to get an indication if people are looking to buy them (with low competition). You need to be creative here... Also, use Google trends to check the seasonality of the product. Like how the product has performed over a period of time. Again, due to covid the stats may be confusing but you can check the stats till the pandemic outbreak to make a reasonable prediction.
Other than Google, you can try Aliexpress search too and see the number of search results for your key phrases. Between 2000 and 30,000 for a niche is good. Below 2000 has too low competition, so noone is interested. And above 30,000 is too competitive. Check for individual products too and how they have sold alongwith the ratings/reviews people gave.
There are surely more ways, and let's wait for more answers.

Toys is one of those product categories that requires a bit of caution... since it's about kids, the materials need to be safe or you might put yourself at risk from the authorities and that could get nasty. We have had several cases of toys being pulled from the market due to usage of materials that are banned in my country or EU in general. I'm pretty sure all of these products were produced in China and we all know how certain suppliers from China operate. So make sure you properly research who you are working with.

Other than that, toys can work great, especially during the main seasons such as christmass, when the people are used to accept longer shipping times.

BTW: as wealthycpa mentioned above me, the shipping times are still all over the board from China right now, so you might want to wait some more until it settles down some more.

You really should not dropship anything from China..

Its all fucked up and polluted..
We are doing direct imports from China and even when working with manufacturer for custom production, 30% of shit still fails on certificates..

The source material used by factories in China contains pollutants.
Almost all of it.

But does autorities get involved with people who are shopping for kids toys from China directly via aliexpress for example?

If my store is dropshipping from China, then as if he is shopping from China, yet sure I have to do the best to select safe products for the kids....

Thanks

Huge difference IMO.

For example if I am an AU based dropshipper, selling into the AU market I am regulated by AU compliance laws. It makes zero difference whether I ship the product directly from within AU, or outside of AU.

Like others have said, be careful with the quality of the products. I would be especially concerned with childrens toys / baby products, etc. OR anything electrical.

At one point a few years ago I was supplied with a container load of rusty personal safes. I suspect the container may have been loaded in the rain. Either way, its hard to offload a shipment like that!

You would be the one collecting payments, the store would operate under your name or your company, the packages would also have your company info on it I guess... so you carry the responsibility for what you are selling.

When a person buys directly from aliexpress, there is no local seller involved, so that's a different situation completely.
