Bot Filters
Hey guys
So I don't run Pops personally, and actually currently I run mostly Push traffic, but I know its possible to somehow use bot detection filters to our advantage.
What are the thoughts of the experts on this?
I actually use Bemob and I wonder what detection rules can we use inside Bemob for Bot Detection.
Here is how it looks on Bemob:

(I know not everyone uses bemob but I wanted to hear you thoughts on this)

I don't use bemob so can't really comment on their bot detection tool and how reliable it is, but bots are really a big pain the ass, as they can screw up the whole traffic rotation... the trackers still treat them as standard clicks and send them to offers, which means that in specific cases you will make bad optimization decisions. If a specific offer or LP happens to receive a high % of bot clicks, it will not convert and you will cut it, while with real traffic it would possibly perform well.
Assuming that bemob's bot tool is reliable, the best option would be to redirect the bot clicks to some bogus url, so they don't even get into the rotation.
Another option is to setup some kind of bot detection and simply identify the placements with the highest bot % and block them at the source... that's my preferred way of dealing with such traffic in the first place.

Thanks for your replay @
matuloo!
I don't think bemob has a "bot detection tool", but rather you can just setup manually some kind of rules to mark traffic as "bot" and then obviously have the option to redirect that traffic.
I wonder how can we setup reliable rules as I have no idea about that?

Some push sources are surprisingly infested with bots too. Like propeller.
I get rid of 70-80% of bots by the simple rule If Not target geo -> go to smartlink.
Then I check up on the geos and IP addresses of those that got redirected, and block those IP addresses on the traffic source (ask your AM).
The other 20-30% is with the simple optimizer rule of if placement has over 200 visits and no clicks, then block that placement.

70%-80%?

For me, yes.
Of course, this is highly dependent on how good your tracker’s IP database is. Voluum’s database is fantastic and coupled with AFK, it’s easier to weed through these things.

And if you guys are interested how Voluum uses machine learning to flag the invalid traffic, go ahead and read the latest post by Roman Wiatr with my DSP Team
It's a pretty advanced piece but really interesting.
