Kickstarter vs facebook
Anyone have any insight launching a new product on kickstarter?
I'm considering whether it's worth the effort vs. just launching on FB like normal.
I'd still need to advertise the kickstarter campaign on FB anyway, so I'm thinking it may not be worth it.
Any thoughts?

I was helping a friend of mine with a campaign on Indiegogo, we got some funding but not enough. I believe the product he had was not interesting enough, that's what I'd say matters the most. I was hesitant about it since day 1, but since he believed in it, we tried it anyways.
In order to it to work out well, tt must have a viral potential, then it can grow really quickly.
We also started the campaign via FB ads, but the AD spent pretty much equaled with the funding it brought us, so it wasn't worth it.
So ask yourself a question, does your product have the "wow" effect, is it unique or innovative in some way? You need people to start sharing it, does it have what it takes?

@matuloo Thanks for the example.
I do think it's pretty unique and 100% has the 'share factor'. It's certainly a viral type product.
I have everything ready to launch it on FB the traditional way that I usually do, so i'm not sure if it's worth creating the extra work, making new creatives, email campaigns, LP etc for the sake of kickstarter.
I guess what i'm really trying to determine is, is the organic/sharing reach of Kickstart/indiegogo any more significant than that organic reach on FB?
And I'm thinking that my lack of understanding of running a kickstarter campaign may tip things in the favour of launching on FB. Or maybe I'm just being lazy.

Reach wise, FB is likely bigger, but kickstarter comes with the extra bonus, which is possible funding for the product production.
With a standard FB campaign, you're simply selling a product that you already have, with a properly setup kicstarted campaign you can create the impression that you are still working on a product and you will only start producing it if the interest is there. With the right product, this can create a massive support "wave" from fans of what you're about to produce.
That's the main difference I see between these two approaches.
Kicstarter does require extra work for sure, without a proper promo video, you won't get far these days... but it you manage to win the favor of the supportive community, that can be a game changer for you. It's all about the product really, which is hard to comment on since I dunno what it is
