Geo Focus? (11)

Geo Focus?

I get that as a new affiliate with a limited budget it is best to focus on one vertical and one traffic source, but does this also apply to geo's?

I'm gathering and testing offers in my vertical on a few cheap traffic sources--the geo's vary widely.

Hello!

Welcome to STM.
The advice I received while starting a few months ago was to avoid tier-1 geo (US/UK especially), which are more expensive and competitive, and focus on tier 2-3-4 countries.

^ This ^

When you focus on only very few geos it can help to gather good data faster so that later campaigns become cheaper and testing is faster.

Many placements you can use across several geos but some work better in only specific geos.

What LPs are working can also change from geo to geo.

That´s why it can help to focus on only a few geos, that way you can learn much better what works in that geos.

With a limited budget, you need to limit the variables too... verticals, sources, GEOs. Otherwise, you will literally just scratch the surface in a bunch of GEOs, test a bunch of verticals and offers and you won't get any reliable data for ANY of them.

On top of that, the more campaigns you run, the more data you will get and it takes some experience to work with it properly. Don't overload yourself at the beginning, give it the time it needs to "click".

This does not mean that you have to stick to "one thing" and work with it until you're in profit though. There are no guarantees that the first offer you chose will be a solid one. You can also chose a GEO that is not the best one at current times. Or maybe the vertical you chose would be a saturated one.

Just don't start with too many things at once. Choose something, learn the basics with it, then decide whether you see any potential in it.

Some people have to switch several verticals until they find one that suits them. Sometimes it's needed to switch GEOs or the traffic source... it's not like every single affiliate would be able to to make everything work.

The important part is to not overload yourself with info at the beginning and respecting he budget you have, if it only allows for one campaign at a time, then so be it.

This is so true.

@lifestyleaquatic, don´t try to copy someone elses success, find something that works for you.

I could give you a 100% blueprint of a winning campaign with all details like offer, LPs, trafficsource, targeting, bids, BL and whatever.

Nonetheless it doesn´t guarantee that you have the same success with it that I have.

Just because something works for affiliate A it doesn´t mean that it also works for affiliate B.

And when you try to make something working at all costs just because it´s working for someone else you risk to lose money for stuff that just won´t work for you.

Long story short, it´s good to test few different things to find something that is working for you and when you found your niche you can stick with it and try to master it.

Did anyone ever create a List of Geos after the catgeories Tier 1,2,3,... and how many the may be :-) would be useful. I am new here, searched for it and couldn't find it.

The problem is that these categories can be somewhat dynamic, there are no 100% fixed statements which geos are Tier 1/2/3/4.

For example I often prefer to rather say High Tier geos or Low Tier geos, that way you don´t have to use fixed terms like Tier2 or so.

Nonetheless there are lists out there, as far as I remember we had such stuff here in the forum as well but can´t really remember.

Soe networks also have such lists.

I got "some" list in one of my older blog posts, I think I posted the article here on the forum too but couldn't find it now, so you can it here: http://matuloo.com/why-newbies-shoul...e-tier-1-geos/

Hey,
On top of what matuloo and twinaxe said (which I strongly agree with) I would recommend contacting the support of your traffic network.
You'd be surprised how much info you can get our of there (Top verticals, GEOs, rates, etc) and it can help definitely help you to choose the most suitable offer for you.
Good luck!
