Whoacreative's first ever ANYTHING with any progress in marketing, a 3 month study.

Today I actually figured out what my New Years resolution was..
I will be making at least $50 / day from affiliate marketing within the next 3 months.
Very doable. I'm proud to have finally made a New Years resolution. I haven't had one in probably 10+ years.

Some things to do:

- Wait for Nameservers to start resolving
- Install CPVLab(already purchased) on a generic domain and ?? Install SSL for tracking pixels ?? <-- If anyone has decent info on this it would be great.
- Push getting accepted to networks that have offers with <$5 payouts.
- Start building my checklists of daily things as well as systematizing absolutely everything to make sure I have metrics to keep up as far as time req'd for things.
- Oh and duh.. Figure out which method / traffic source I'll be using.

I will try to be as honest as I can here. And I'll also make sure I add as much detail as I'm comfortable with. It is a personal (flaw maybe?) thing for me to not trust anyone when it comes to things like this. Not sure why. That being said though it is my intention for this to mostly be a learning experience and as long as I've learned as much as I've spent then I'll be happy.

Some things of note:
- I have about $3k - $4k US I'll be using for this. I can lose this all and not feel very bad about it.
- I have a horrible tendency to lose focus (ohhhh shiny..) and try to learn too much <-- This stems from my profession…. I am a nuclear plant operator and seem to "nuke" everything out most of the time.
- I really want this (even though I'm very open to "this" turning into something else entirely as I learn…)

Thanks for reading everyone! And BTW, I love this forum so far! Great info everywhere and I love that $99 / month seems to be mostly successful at removing most of the lamers. Good luck to all of you! And oh yeah.. Me.

So I've done a few of these things already. My nameservers are still not resolving, think there may be a problem there. Wondering if I should just go ahead and install CPVLab though and just use IP address so I can get familiar.

Is it generally ok to just use the $8 or so SSL cert from say namecheap.com or name.com? That's what I'm looking at, then I'll just have my hosting (managed VPS) install it for me.

I applied to 3 networks today, peerfly, EWA (says they're going to contact me about the STM member guarantee to push my account), and tried neverblue also but we'll see how that goes. Seems neverblue has a bit more req'd as far as a website etc.? Maybe I'm wrong there.

Is it usually ok to just put your tracking domain in the website field while applying if you don't do SEO or maintain permanent sites?

I'm torn between POF (heard it's noob friendlyish) and Facebook, but I heard it's tough to push anything but dating and fitness on FB. Any thoughts?
Making good progress so far, I've also signed up for a couple CPV computers too just to have another option if I HATE FB or POF.

Please share any ideas you might have for me, I know you've all seen 15 of these follow alongs but I'd really appreciate anything you can offer as advice or even flamespray.. lol

Let's go make some money!

A couple hiccups already but that's to be expected I guess. My nameservers still aren't resolving, I had to create host records at my registrar so I will give it one more day before I complain too much. Bought the $10 SSL cert from namecheap for my tracking domain, I kind of want to wait to install it when everything is finally resolving.

I've made progress on joining the networks, it's pretty difficult to get into these things if you're honest and say you don't have a lot of experience in the field. I guess this is understandable with all of the fraud attempts they get, but it should be easy to figure out on the phone if someone if trying to scam or not. (BTW neverblue and A4D, please call me, you have my number! :-) )

I've decided I'm going to start with POF as it's pretty noob friendly and the traffic isn't as expensive so I can get more learning / $ spent. This is my logic at least, let me know if I'm off here.

Also just noticed I wrote "CPV computers" in my previous post.... lol Just CPV programs is what I meant...

Started making creatives as well today, though I'm keeping them generic so that I can change them for whatever offer I decide to push first. Just some buttons, headlines, images, placeholder type stuff. I think they look decent though. I've heard ugly sells so I'm bound to make about a million bucks off these!

Wow, just typing this and EWA got back to me on the phone. Looks like I'm APPROVED! Finally I'll be able to look at some things I can promote. I'll let you guys know which verticals I'm thinking about later, as well as maybe post a couple of my generic landers.

Good luck everyone!

Lesson learned.. If you get a VPS with WHM on it, make sure you setup a hosting account on that VPS for the domain you opened the hosting with.... turns out they don't actually do that for you when you sign up... Tracking domain and nameservers now resolving... lol

Well I only had 2 hours to work on stuff tonight. I was able to do a few things though.

I got approved for my first offer on EWA, I chose a penny auctions offer first. This one in particular has a USP I think would be a good angle and I hear angles are everything here so I'll give it a shot.

I installed my SSL cert and tested both https://www.domain.com and without www. Works great. (That took some reading.. a surprisingly complex effort.)

Figured out that I installed CPVLab in a shitty named directory and I wanted to change it so I had to reset my license already. Lesson learned also: when you install tracking, try not to make it obvious to your traffic that the link is something that makes someone else money. like http://www.domain.com/track .

Finished 2 LP's for my offer and uploaded to my offer domain, then realized I need to use the links from my tracking. So I fixed that as well, so many little errors today but all good lessons. I actually find this pretty fun. It's pretty cool to be picking up something new and having some "Aha!" moments. LOL

That's it for tonight. I'm finding my transition to mac from windows is also slowing my progress a bit, but I definitely love this thing already, it's just a ton faster than my old doze comp.

Good night all! Have fun waking up to new money made! (this will be me soon too!!!!)

EDIT: oh yeah, forgot to mention that I put $400 into an LI account and started fudging with their UI a bit to get familiar. Pretty simple stuff, but I haven't chosen keywords/domains yet either.. Later all!
