Push Traffic 101 - Introduction

Introduction

Before I start with the informative stuff let me tell you few things about Push traffic and why it´s a very good traffic type in paid advertising.

The first thing is that Push traffic is very affiliate friendly so that you can run lots of different stuff that you can´t run on sources like FB, Adwords or even on Native without cloaking.

This also means that you don´t have to worry about account bans like on other sources.

On Push traffic you are also not limited to specific verticals or offers.
You can basically get more or less everything running on Push.

Low payout offers as well as high payouts, many different verticals.
Same with Geos, you can have great campaigns in Tier1 Geos as well as in Tier 3/4 Geos.

When you don´t have a big enough budget for Native for example you can still start with Push traffic and run campaigns on good volume.

Speaking about budget, even when you can start on lower budget compared to other traffic types you still should take care to don´t waste your money.

When you run your Push campaigns smart you can mostly avoid to lose too much money.
On the other hand you can also lose huge sums when you don´t really know what you do or when you setup your campaigns wrong so I do my best to show you how to test and run campaigns without risking to go broke

What is this guide all about?

Maybe some of you are a bit disappointed about this guide because they hoped it will be a spoonfed tutorial for easy success.

But I will be honest with you, it won´t help anyone when I just show you few example campaigns when you don´t understand the system behind it.
It´s not enough when you just know that something works, you need to understand why and how it works.

When you want to run campaigns on your own you need to understand how the different elements are connected, you need to understand how all these elements play together.

Let me first tell you what this tutorial is NOT about.

It´s NOT about exaggerated promises how to make $XXX,XXX in the next 30 days but you will learn everything you need to have a good start with Push traffic.

That doesn´t mean that it´s only about running small campaigns or low volume.
With my own knowledge and experience with Push traffic I am running $XX,XXX revenue a month myself so you shouldn´t be worried to only learn stuff for $20 profit per day or so

For me it´s important that you don´t fall for the next „Get rich quick“ scheme.
Keep it realistic, learning new things just takes some time when you want to do it right.

Treat affiliate marketing like any other job and then imagine how long it takes to learn any other job.
In AM you can make good money much faster than in other industries but it still takes some time to learn it.

It´s not realistic to tell you that you can have 4 figure profit days after 2 weeks running traffic when you first have to learn the fundamentals.
Mostly when someone promises to teach you how to get rich fast you only lose your hard earned money fast.

So when you are looking for a fast lane or a shortcut to high profits please move on.
But when you are interested into learning something useful from scratch continue reading and I will do my best to show you how to start and how to run your campaigns properly.

It´s better to start small but safe → collect stats → scale → run bigger campaigns

Usually it shouldn´t be hard to make money with the info you learn here.
Getting low profit campaigns is pretty easy but of course no one wants to stay on a „$10 per day“ level forever.

I will also show you how to scale to get the maximum off your campaigns.

Of course you should be prepared that you have to spend money first but then you should at least spend it wisely and don´t waste it.

This guide is about good ways to start and run Push traffic but a basic knowledge about how to use a tracker and how to create/run campaigns is presumed.

I won´t go deep into details for such stuff because Amy did a great job already in describing the basics.

When you are completely new to affiliate marketing then probaby it would be good when you check out Amy´s “40 Day Tutorial“ first.
There you can learn the basics about how to set up campaigns, about tracking and so on.
The 40 days tutorial uses Pop traffic, there you have less elements to take care of so it´s probably easier to learn the fundamentals.

What will be covered in this tutorial?

I decided to split the tutorial into different topics with seperated threads.

That way I hope to keep it cleaner so that it´s not just a big mess in one big thread.

The different threads will be about topics like trafficsources, offers, creatives, landing pages, campaign creation, bidding, optimizing, scaling and so on.

Everything I show you can be done only by yourself with no additional team.
I will also show you how I run dozens or even hundreds of campaigns simultaneous all by myself.

Even when you learn how to create and run the campaigns you should be prepared that you still need to test alot.

This is normal, I also test lots of stuff myself.

Nothing comes from nothing.

I won´t show you how to run ONE specific campaign in ONE vertical on ONE trafficsource.
This would only create unnecessary high competition because then everyone would run the same stuff.
It also won´t help you with future campaigns when you only know how to run that one campaign.

Also what works for me doesn´t necessarily work for you, too.
I want you to UNDERSTAND how Push traffic works so that you are ready to run many different campaigns independent and all on your own.

That´s why it is so important that you understand the game so that you don´t have to rely on campaign info from others and instead can come up with own ideas.

As usual there are no cut in stone numbers or rules that you can use for everything.
That´s just normal in Push traffic and affiliate marketing in general, there are always exceptions.

This is why it´s also important to don´t get focused too much on specific numbers or rules.
I try to explain you how I run push traffic as good as possible so that you know everything you need to understand how push traffic works and how you can use it effective.

Learn, understand, adapt, succeed.

"Ok, but can you still show some real campaign examples?"

Of course I will, but this won´t be part of this guide.

Here I want to lay the foundation for your push journey so that you really understand the traffic.
My goal is to train you to be ready to run campaigns on your own so that you don´t have to rely on stuff that others show you.

It won´t help you at all when I show just show you "ready to run" campaigns when you don´t know how to "read" the campaigns and when you wouldn´t be able to come up with such campaigns yourself.

Nonetheless I will post real campaign guides and case studies in separate threads.
There I will not only post some results or so but I will try to explain as good as possible my trains of thought through the whole process of the campaign, starting from the choice of geo, how I chose the offer, how I planned the campaign and everything else you need to know.

I also strongly recommend to start a follow along.

That way you can get direct help and support for your very own campaigns.
Then you basically have your personal campaign guide with info that is directly relevant for you, that can help alot to learn the stuff on real campaigns.

In my opinion that combination of "teaching to understand" and giving direct support for your own campaigns is the best way to turn you into a successful independent longterm affiliate instead of a non-independent copycat

Probably you will find few things in this tutorial that you have seen different somewhere else or things that other people do different.
But this guide is based 100% on my own findings and experience with push traffic and that´s what I can tell about

I don´t run all verticals myself so I also can´t tell about everything but I continue testing new stuff and will add new info to the guide if needed so you can see the guide also as a "work in progress" that grows over time.

When I see that some questions come up more often or when there is higher interest in specific topics I also try to add more info about it.

The next parts of the guide will be posted the next days or so one after another.

And now have fun and I hope you can learn a bit from it.

How exciting!!!

I've been SO looking forward to this!

There are still so many affiliates making great profits from push - I would encourage anyone to give it a try regardless of experience level.

Thanks @twinaxe for adding yet another powerful newbie tutorial to the arsenal!

Been waiting for this!

Even push vets are going to pay attention because twinaxe is just weird.

I mean creative.

I mean creatively weird.

Or weirdly creative.

Either way, his approach to push will definitely be unique, and detailed, and awesome.

No pressure, though

Haha, no pressure taken.

I just try to explain as good as possible how I succeed with that stuff and yes, probably there is one or another thing that I do different.

Would be boring when everyone would run the stuff exactly the same.

But I don't want to create twinaxe clones.
I better do my best to help everyone to have a good start so that they can then develop all their very own styles.

Thanks guys, I know that it took way too long to get the guide published.
You have no idea how much I thought about it and how often I had to rewrite parts of the guide because I was not that happy with it.

I also could easily postpone it for some more months because probably I will never be 100% satisfied with it.

In the end it just has to be published as I kicked it down the road for way too long already.

But you can be sure that I did the work with my best intentions and I really hope that it will help you and all the others who read it at least a bit to make their struggle a easier

Sounds very promising! I'm looking forward for this thread as well.

I agree Push traffic can be used for different types of verticals and different type of proposes. When you deeply understand how to use it properly its a very good format to have in your toolbox.
I'm running into a lot of advertiser who run different type's of Push campaigns and its very interesting to see how they take advantage of this format for a variety of different usages.
