My journey in PUSH Campaign (PropellerAds + Bemob + Sweeps🎁)

Hi STM Members,

MY OFFER

Traffic Source: PropellerAds Push Notification
Tracker: Bemob
Geo: US
Offer: Walmart $1000 Gift Card
Model: CPC
User Activity: All

Last two weeks, I've created one campaign (PropellerAds), which was for mobile and started with 6 creatives + 1 landing pages. I ran it for 7 days. The third day after launching my campaign I started to blacklisting some sources that Landing CTR is lower than 3% without any conversion. I also paused some creatives that spend over $15 (offer payout is $2.45) without any conversion. Here is the stats in my 1st attempt:

As you can see in the screenshot above, the Landing CTR performed not very well. However the conversion is not really bad. I found that all the 5 conversion came from a winner creative and lander and they all came from 9.0 OS version and low user activity.

So I optimized again. Here is the result from the March 16th to March 20th:

What I optimized in the second time:

* just target low user activity, 9.0 OS version
* increase two more similar creatives, just in order to test different icon

The CTR is increased, but I am not sure why there's no conversion after optimization. Even new creatives do not perform as well as the old one (mainly reflected in CTR). The offer is still not making profit.

I hope to hear your suggestions. Thanks a lot.

Performance has been horrible due to:

1. My old campaign seem to be dying, as the ROI went from -88% to -100%.
2. The new campaign was testing with 2 landers (add one more) for the same offer, but it's still unprofitable.

So I stopped both campaigns currently and do some reviews. So far I've optimized some unprofitable zone IDs, OS versions, browsers, creatives and landers. I am not sure if my optimization in the wrong direction. Anyone can please give me an advice on how to optimize this offer to get better ROI?

Why do you only run that one offer?

Offer payout is $2.45, how much did you spend already on that offer?

For me it looks like you are beating a dead horse

Better try to find new offers to test.

On the other hand it would be good to know what user activity you target for the tests?
Do you run only high activity or other activity levels as well?

Based on what you're saying in your posts above, looks like you're blocking zone ids, OS versions, browsers all at the same time. Can you tell us a bit more about your optimization approach?

What I optimized in the second time:

* just target low user activity, 9.0 OS version
* increase two more similar creatives, just in order to test different icon
Throttling the traffic to a specific OS version when your offer accepts traffic from several ones, is not the best approach. Also, simply changing the creative icons won't necessarily bring a huge difference on your campaign results.

What I would suggest is to focus your optimization on the zone level first. To make things easier, you can get some additional information about the offer from your affiliate manager then calculate the average number of clicks you need to send to the offer in order to become profitable.

Thank you all for the answer, here are most detailed info:

1. I've run some other US Sweepstakes offers like Samsung S10, iPhone 11 at the same time, however, conversions were still not good.
So I paused some as I have the same optimization problem for those offers. I want to figure it out then test other offers.

2. Offer payout is $2.45, I've spent about $150 on that offer.

3. For the first time, I target all user activity for that offer, then I found it all conversions are came from the low activity levels and the high level costs little.
So for the second time after optimization, I target only low and medium user activity. After spending $50, it's still unprofitable.

I think maybe i'm just wrong trying to optimize this offer, should i stop it and start a new one? Or try to optimize so i can learn something?

I would have stopped testing at $25 dollars.

It's a solid offer. But.

US is competitive as fuck and you're competing with a shitload of affiliates on tons of networks who have had an optimized funnel for a looooong time for Walmart, some very aggressive.

Going direct with the advertiser, the payout is $3.5 or more so those affiliates have even more to spend and still remain profitable.

That advertiser scrubs hard.

Performance on that offer also varies wildly.

Also.

You're optimizing backwards. Start a new camp with Hi Activity only. Android. Don't touch OS version or anything else.

I would suggest spending $150 on lower payout, lower Tier geos first though.

Thanks for specifying!

1. Tier 1 countries not good for beginners its more competitive and harder to work with.

2. if u have a optimization problem i will advice u to graduate from Pop Because there's a lot of stuff to learn and cheap for testing than switch to Push when u find a winning lander+offer

in this case u have to follow Vortex' 40-Day tutorial it is full of gold information that gonna help u in all these step testing optimization and scaling.
Good luck

Thank you Platinum. My strategy to use to optimize push is creatives -> zone ids -> target. I've uploaded 6 creatives then paused some that had a lower CTR and no conversions. Once I've done optimizing creatives, head over to the zone ids, just retain Propeller's direct traffic at all. Then I just assume that narrowing the target to see if it can increase the ROI.

So now should I focus on the Zone level now? For the creatives, how many do you suggest to upload to test? When is it better to optimize?

Hi jaybot, thanks for your point. Why would you recommend starting testing at a high level instead of low+medium or medium+high? As my test results show that all conversions came from the low level however.

If target High activity only, should I bid significantly higher on them? Also I want to know if you would like to bid by CPC or CPM?

I think I should also target lower tier geo for another try, I'll keep updating to continue communication.

Thanks for your suggestions!

1. Yes it's really hard to work with for the newbie. I tried both US and DE, both were unprofitable. Perhaps for Walmart offer is competitive in US. Do you have any suggested offer for testing US? (just the vertical and the conversion flow)

2.
Awesome guide. I'll follow along and have some test.

My strategy to use to optimize push is creatives -> zone ids -> target
What exacty do you mean with zone ids and targets?

I just ask because on ZP for example targets are placements as well so just want to make sure that you didn´t confuse things here

Or do you mean targeting with targets?

Btw, feel free to check out my Push Guide, it´s only the first 2 parts now but the next will be posted soon.

One important thing is to always start with high activity for tests.

For testing better go for quality and not for higher volume at lower CPC.

Now you ask for US offers again.

Really man, when you are new stay away from US and similar geos.

Learn the stuff in a safer environment.

That can save you lots of money in the beginning and you can still switch to the high competitive and expensive geos later.

Yes, here means targeting with targets. That's why I've modified the OS versions, browser and etc.

Thanks for this! Can't wait for the next part. I'll keep learning!

Hope you are doing well.

After listening to the above tips and learning some skills from the post " Road to XXX/day - Follow the Pianist on his Journey", I decided to suspend the offer (US - Sweepstakes - Walmart) that I optimized before. After all, the optimization time is quite long.

These two days I've some new campaigns launched. I still test sweepstakes and choose US and DE as my test area as these two are what I have been focusing on recently.

Day 1

Campaign 1:

Offer 1/ Netflix/ US/ High Activity Only/ Mobile/ Android

CTR: 31%
CVR: 3.5%
COST: $21
REVENUE: $18
PROFIT: -$3
ROI: -20%

Campaign 2:

Offer 1/ Netflix/ US/ Medium Activity Only/ Mobile/ Android

CTR: 27%
CVR: 1.8%
COST: $40
REVENUE: $15
PROFIT: -$25
ROI: -62%

Campaign 3:

Offer 1/ Netflix/ US/ Low Activity Only/ Mobile/ Android

CTR: 25%
CVR: 1.2%
COST: $50
REVENUE: $12
PROFIT: -$38
ROI: -76%

Campaign 4:

Offer 2/ iPhone 11 Pro/ US/ High Activity Only/ Mobile/ Android

CTR: 19%
CVR: 1.1%
COST: $12
REVENUE: $3
PROFIT: -$9
ROI: -75%

Campaign 5:

Offer 3/ Samsung S10/ DE/ High Activity Only/ Mobile/ Android

CTR: 36%
CVR: 4%
COST: $6.1
REVENUE: $6.2
PROFIT: $0.1
ROI: 1%

Notes:
For US - Sweepstakes - Netflix: using 3 creatives + 2 landers
For US - Sweepstakes - iPhone 11 Pro: using 4 creatives + 2 landers
For DE - Sweepstakes - Samsung S10: using 2 creatives + 3 landers

*********************

So far they perform better than I tested that only US offer at the first of all. And at this time, I haven't made too much optimization. I keep those campaigns continue to run to the next day, but I found a few problems.

1. The consumption slows down and there're no conversions. However I did't cut too much zone id. I wonder if there is a problem with my bidding and traffic options. As I only choose PropellerAds and the current CPC bidding is $0.04. Is it need to scale the traffic and change bid?

2. Below is the frequency I set for my campaigns. Is there any problem?

Name:	Frequency.png
Views:	250
Size:	14.2 KB
ID:	23418

3. I know that there are still few conversions so far, how much conversion reached is better to set up WL campaign?

4. What can I do to increase CVR? It seems that still too low.

Any tips guys that could help me would be much appreciated.. Thank you!

And at this time, I haven't made too much optimization.
In the test stage you can´t do any real optimizations, it´s just for testing if something has potential or not.

You can exclude non converting high volume zones there to re-test them later.
Apart from that you just keep it running and try to find a good working combination.

Only with a good working funnel you can start with optimization

How many offers did you test?

1 US Netflix, 1 US iPhone 11 and 1 DE Samsung S10?

If yes, it´s not good to run the same test campaign on High, Medium and Low activity together.

Test only on high, when it doesn´t fly there you don´t need to spend money on Medium and Low.

The consumption slows down and there're no conversions.
What do you mean with "consumption slows down"?

That the volume drops or just that you receive no additional conversions?

I wonder if there is a problem with my bidding and traffic options. As I only choose PropellerAds and the current CPC bidding is $0.04. Is it need to scale the traffic and change bid?
About which campaigns are we talking there?

US Netflix High activity, US Netflix Medium activity, US Netflix low activity, US iPhone 11 Pro High activity, DE Samsung S10/ DE High activity?

Only Propeller Ads or broker traffic as well?

Only classic push or In-Page push as well?

2. Below is the frequency I set for my campaigns. Is there any problem?
It´s good, I use the same setting myself

3. I know that there are still few conversions so far, how much conversion reached is better to set up WL campaign?
There is no hard rule for it but I would wait for at least 30 or 40 conversions or so to make sure that the offer is a stable converter.

4. What can I do to increase CVR? It seems that still too low.
- Get more offers for same product to splittest.

- Find the best LP to use

- Identify the best creatives

Yes, I am testing those 3 offers.

Sorry for not expressing clearly here. Here means campaigns experience both daily spend and volume drop. How can I improve this situation? Increasing budget?

We are talking about US Netflix High activity and DE Samsung S10 High activity. I've paused US Netflix Medium and Low activity campaigns because of their poor ROI on the second day.
For US Netflix High activity and DE Samsung S10 High activity, I set $0.04 CPC bidding, and targeted only
Propeller Ads and classic push.

Should I test more offers for same product by split campaign? Or can make some offers in a flow to test in one campaign?

There´s not much you can do about it, that´s pretty normal on push.

To increase volume again you need to get a fresh boost.

Change your creatives a bit (icon for example) to get your creatives back into moderation for a new boost.

When that doesn´t help clone your campaign.

For US Netflix High activity and DE Samsung S10 High activity, I set $0.04 CPC bidding, and targeted only Propeller Ads and classic push.
Generally it should be ok but try to run broker traffic as well for more volume.

Should I test more offers for same product by split campaign? Or can make some offers in a flow to test in one campaign?
When you test more offers for the same product you don´t need to test in split campaigns.

Just test few different Netflix offers in one campaign, few different S10 offers in one campaign and so on.
